The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a warning to citizens regarding fraudulent e challan messages that are being used to deceive individuals through suspicious links. The agency cautioned that opening unverified links received through messages could put bank accounts and personal financial information at risk, potentially leading to monetary losses. Citizens have been advised to verify all e challan notifications through official platforms and avoid interacting with links or websites received from unknown sources to protect themselves from online fraud attempts.
According to the advisory, scammers are using fake e challan notifications to create the appearance of official traffic-related communications and encourage people to provide sensitive information. Such messages may direct recipients toward unauthorized websites or platforms designed to collect personal and financial details. NCCIA has emphasized that citizens should remain cautious when receiving unexpected messages related to payments, fines, or government services. Individuals are advised to avoid sharing information such as Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) details, bank account information, payment credentials, or other personal data on websites that have not been verified through official channels. The warning follows a similar public advisory issued by Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), which had previously cautioned citizens about fraudulent e challan messages. ITP stated that individuals were being targeted through fake websites, misleading links, and unauthorized SMS and WhatsApp messages that attempted to appear as official traffic challan notifications. The traffic police advised citizens to carefully verify the authenticity of any communication before taking action, especially when messages request payments or personal information. Officials highlighted that even messages appearing to come from government-related sources should be checked through official websites or verified contact channels before users proceed.
NCCIA and ITP have encouraged citizens who receive suspicious e challan messages to report them to the relevant authorities for review and necessary action. People have also been advised to check their e challan status only through official government platforms and avoid clicking on links shared through unknown numbers or unverified sources. These precautions can help reduce the risk of financial fraud, identity misuse, and unauthorized access to personal information. Authorities continue to promote public awareness about online scams as digital services become more widely used across the country.
The advisory highlights the importance of maintaining digital safety practices while using online services and responding to electronic communications. As government and financial services increasingly shift toward digital platforms, users are encouraged to remain aware of common fraud techniques and verify information before making payments or sharing personal details. NCCIA’s warning aims to help citizens recognize potential threats, adopt safer online habits, and protect their financial and personal information from misuse. Through greater awareness and responsible digital behavior, individuals can reduce exposure to fraudulent activities conducted through fake websites, messages, and online platforms.
