The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has launched a nationwide cyber awareness campaign across nine cities in Pakistan to educate students, journalists, and the general public about online fraud, safe internet practices, and responsible use of social media platforms. The initiative aims to improve public understanding of emerging cyber risks and encourage citizens to adopt safer digital habits while using online services. According to NCCIA officials, the campaign was launched on the directions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi under the supervision of Director General NCCIA Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi as part of efforts to promote awareness and strengthen public engagement against cyber-related challenges.
As part of the campaign, awareness sessions were organized in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gilgit, Sahiwal, Abbottabad, and Karachi. These sessions focused on educating participants about common online threats, precautionary measures, and ways to protect personal information while using digital platforms. NCCIA officials highlighted the importance of awareness in helping individuals recognize suspicious online activities, avoid potential financial fraud, and understand responsible digital behavior. The campaign targeted different segments of society, including students, journalists, and members of the general public, with the objective of building broader awareness around cybersecurity practices and reducing risks associated with online activities.
Special awareness sessions were also conducted for students at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Abbottabad and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi. During these sessions, participants were briefed on safe internet usage, responsible social media practices, and methods to protect themselves from online financial fraud and other cybercrime related activities. In Abbottabad, NCCIA also organized a cyber awareness walk at the Press Club, which was attended by journalists, students, and civil society members. The activity focused on promoting digital responsibility and encouraging communities to remain informed about potential cyber threats. Officials shared guidance on adopting secure online practices and highlighted the role of individuals in maintaining a safer digital environment.
Director General NCCIA Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi emphasized that increasing awareness among all sections of society is important for building a safe Digital Pakistan. He said NCCIA would continue conducting awareness initiatives to educate citizens about cybercrime risks and encourage responsible use of digital platforms. The campaign reflects NCCIA’s efforts to strengthen public understanding of cyber threats while promoting preventive measures that can help individuals protect themselves in an increasingly connected environment. The DG also urged citizens to report cybercrime incidents through the NCCIA helpline 1799 or by contacting their nearest NCCIA circle for assistance. Through continued awareness programs and public outreach activities, NCCIA aims to support a more informed digital community where users can better identify online risks and take appropriate steps to protect their digital presence.
