NCCIA Sacks Four In South Punjab Over Alleged Data Leak Of Government Officials To Foreign Entities

Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, NCCIA, has announced the dismantling of an alleged network accused of illegally acquiring and transferring sensitive personal information of Pakistani government officials to foreign entities. During a press conference held on Friday, NCCIA Director General Syed Khurram Ali confirmed that four suspects in South Punjab had been sacked in connection with the investigation. According to officials, the accused were allegedly involved in collecting and selling confidential records associated with government officers, including call detail records, Computerized National Identity Card information, and passport related data. The development has raised concerns around information security, institutional safeguards, and possible unauthorized access to highly sensitive government records.

The individuals identified in the case include Arshad Tariq, Arham Bari, Anam Sabir, and Mohammad Rizwan. According to NCCIA, forensic examinations of the suspects’ mobile devices have already been completed as investigators continue to examine the scale of the alleged activity. Director General Syed Khurram Ali described the case as an organized espionage and cybercrime matter, claiming that sensitive information was allegedly being shared with foreign intelligence agencies. Authorities stated that formal cases have been registered over the alleged unlawful transfer of sensitive data outside Pakistan, while digital forensic teams continue tracing how the information was accessed and moved. Investigators are also reviewing official institutional email accounts to determine whether system vulnerabilities or unauthorized access methods were involved in the breach.

NCCIA further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether any government employees or insiders facilitated access to the information from within state institutions. Officials noted that the inquiry is examining potential internal involvement and institutional weaknesses that may have contributed to the exposure of sensitive records. The agency has directed government departments to strengthen internal data protection frameworks and limit unauthorized access to confidential information. NCCIA emphasized that institutions carry responsibility for protecting official records and ensuring stronger safeguards are in place to prevent future misuse of sensitive data. The case highlights broader concerns regarding cybersecurity readiness and information governance across public sector systems handling critical citizen and government data.

During the same media briefing, NCCIA Director General Syed Khurram Ali also discussed several recent enforcement actions carried out by the agency. He stated that authorities had recently sacked individuals involved in an online campaign advocating for Swat to become part of Afghanistan, reiterating that action would continue against activities considered harmful to the state. Ali also shared updates on the agency’s operational strength, noting that NCCIA currently maintains a nationwide workforce of approximately 480 personnel and is actively working to expand operational capabilities. Separately, the agency highlighted a recent enforcement operation in Lahore where seven suspects were sacked during a raid on a fake call center allegedly linked to online investment and financial fraud schemes. Earlier this month, NCCIA Punjab reportedly sacked 13 individuals over alleged anti state social media activity, while another suspect in Lahore was detained last month over accusations related to anti army and anti state online content.
