National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan, National CERT, has conducted the fourth session of its Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program at its headquarters in Islamabad as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity preparedness through leadership development, institutional coordination, and collaboration across multiple sectors. The initiative brings together senior executives and decision makers from government ministries, regulatory bodies, academia, and public and private organizations to address rapidly evolving cyber risks and improve strategic readiness against emerging digital threats. The latest session continued National CERT’s broader objective of building stronger cybersecurity resilience by equipping organizational leadership with practical knowledge required to oversee and manage technology related risks.
The session was delivered by Commodore Dr Nazir Ahmed Malik, SI (M), Cyber Security Advisor and National CERT’s Distinguished Trainer, who shared expertise on executive responsibilities related to technology oversight, cyber risk management, and governance frameworks necessary for protecting critical digital systems. Drawing upon extensive leadership experience in cybersecurity, the trainer discussed the growing need for informed executive level decision making in environments increasingly shaped by digital transformation, cloud adoption, and sophisticated cyber threats. Participants were provided perspectives on governance mechanisms aimed at safeguarding digital assets while ensuring organizations remain prepared to manage risks in an increasingly interconnected and technology dependent environment. Officials involved in the program emphasized that leadership engagement remains essential for addressing vulnerabilities affecting both public and private institutions.
Discussions during the fourth session focused heavily on critical infrastructure protection and the cybersecurity challenges surrounding Operational Technology environments, which continue to play an important role across sectors responsible for essential services. Participants also examined Zero Trust principles and layered defense mechanisms designed to improve resilience against unauthorized access and cyber intrusions. Broader discussions covered emerging threats connected to cloud computing, Internet of Things ecosystems, and mobile technologies, areas that continue to experience rapid adoption across industries. Special attention was also given to cybersecurity implications associated with artificial intelligence, risks related to data manipulation, and vulnerabilities within digital supply chains, reflecting growing concerns around increasingly complex attack surfaces. Through practical discussions and executive engagement, attendees explored methods for improving organizational resilience, strengthening governance models, and encouraging greater accountability in cybersecurity decision making.
National CERT stated that sustained collaboration and leadership driven awareness remain important components of Pakistan’s broader cybersecurity posture as digital systems become more deeply integrated into governance, business operations, and public services. The Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program is intended to create stronger alignment between institutions and senior decision makers responsible for safeguarding technology environments against emerging risks. By bringing together stakeholders from multiple sectors, the initiative seeks to support stronger preparedness, informed policy discussions, and improved resilience against cyber threats affecting organizations operating within Pakistan’s evolving digital ecosystem. National CERT reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a secure and trusted digital environment through continued executive engagement, knowledge sharing, and capacity building efforts aimed at improving cybersecurity governance nationwide.
