National CERT Conducts Fifth Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program Session On Incident Response And Crisis Management

National CERT Pakistan has successfully conducted the fifth session of its Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program at its headquarters in Islamabad, continuing its efforts to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity resilience through executive leadership, institutional coordination, and collaboration across multiple sectors. The initiative brings together senior executives and decision makers from government ministries, regulatory authorities, academia, and organizations from both the public and private sectors to address emerging cyber risks while improving national preparedness against evolving digital threats. The program is designed to strengthen leadership capabilities at the executive level by equipping participants with practical knowledge and strategic approaches required to manage cybersecurity challenges that increasingly affect critical services, public institutions, and businesses across Pakistan.

The fifth session was delivered by Mr. Tauseef Aslam, Chief Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer for Cyber Security and Data Protection, who shared practical insights based on his professional experience in cybersecurity leadership, incident response, and data protection. During the session, participants explored the importance of executive involvement in developing comprehensive incident response strategies that enable organizations to respond effectively to cyber incidents while maintaining operational continuity and preserving stakeholder confidence. Discussions highlighted that cybersecurity incidents are no longer solely technical issues but also executive level challenges requiring timely decision making, coordinated communication, and strong governance. The session emphasized that leadership plays a central role in ensuring organizations remain prepared before, during, and after cyber incidents through effective planning, resource allocation, and coordinated response mechanisms.

A significant portion of the program focused on the development and implementation of effective Incident Response Plans, commonly known as IRPs, while also explaining the importance of maintaining close coordination with National CERT during major cybersecurity incidents. Participants examined practical crisis management approaches, including communication strategies that help organizations engage internal teams, stakeholders, and the public during cybersecurity events. The session also covered Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery practices, highlighting their role in minimizing operational disruption, protecting essential services, and enabling organizations to recover efficiently after cyber incidents. Participants discussed resilience planning as an important component of modern cybersecurity governance, ensuring that institutions can continue delivering critical operations even when facing sophisticated cyber threats. A key feature of the session was a tabletop cyber attack response simulation, allowing participants to engage in a realistic scenario that tested executive decision making, inter organizational coordination, and incident management processes. The exercise provided practical experience in responding to cyber incidents while reinforcing collaboration between participating organizations and National CERT.

Through interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and scenario based learning, participants gained valuable insights into strengthening incident response capabilities, improving cyber crisis governance, and enhancing organizational resilience across their respective institutions. The Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program reflects National CERT’s broader objective of building a secure and resilient digital ecosystem by promoting executive awareness, institutional capacity building, and cooperation between government entities, regulators, academia, and private sector organizations. By continuing to organize specialized leadership sessions that focus on practical cybersecurity challenges and strategic preparedness, National CERT aims to support organizations in developing stronger governance frameworks, improving operational resilience, and fostering coordinated responses to cyber incidents. The ongoing program also reinforces the importance of collaboration across sectors to improve national cyber preparedness and strengthen Pakistan’s ability to respond effectively to an increasingly complex cybersecurity landscape while supporting a secure and trusted digital environment for public institutions, businesses, and citizens.
