Habib Bank Limited Goes Live On Temenos Core Banking As Major Digital Transformation Program Expands Across Pakistan

Habib Bank Limited, one of Pakistan’s leading financial institutions, has officially gone live on Temenos Core Banking as part of a large scale modernization initiative in collaboration with Temenos, a global leader in banking technology. The deployment marks a significant milestone in the bank’s ongoing digital transformation strategy aimed at enhancing agility, operational resilience, and scalability across its banking infrastructure. The initial phase of the rollout includes support for both Conventional and Islamic Banking operations and covers the migration of customer accounts from 200 branches within Pakistan onto the Temenos platform, reflecting one of the region’s more ambitious core banking modernization efforts.

The program, once fully implemented, is designed to extend across the entire branch network of Habib Bank Limited and will eventually support more than 40 million customer accounts. The system is expected to handle approximately 20 million transactions per day, positioning the bank to operate at a significantly larger digital capacity compared to its previous legacy infrastructure. The migration is part of a structured phased approach that prioritizes stability while transitioning high volume banking operations into a unified core system capable of supporting real time financial services at national scale.

The implementation has been delivered by Systems Limited using the Country Model Bank accelerator, integrating Temenos Core and Temenos Data Hub within a hybrid cloud architecture powered by Red Hat OpenShift. This modern infrastructure enables faster product development cycles, improved processing efficiency, and real time data availability for analytics and regulatory compliance requirements. The adoption of a hybrid cloud model allows the institution to balance scalability with operational control, while ensuring that critical banking workloads are managed in a secure and performance optimized environment. The integration of data services further strengthens the bank’s ability to generate insights for decision making and regulatory reporting, aligning with global standards in financial technology modernization.

Leadership representatives from all involved organizations highlighted the strategic importance of the deployment. Muhammad Nassir Salim, President and CEO of Habib Bank Limited, described the Temenos core banking deployment as a pivotal milestone in the bank’s technology transformation journey. He noted that the system equips the institution with enhanced capabilities for innovation, product agility, and scalable efficiency, while also acknowledging the complexity of the project and the role of Temenos and Systems Limited in ensuring its successful execution. William Moroney, Chief Revenue Officer at Temenos, emphasized that the shift from legacy systems to a cloud native core provides Habib Bank Limited with a robust and scalable foundation capable of supporting large and complex banking operations, enabling faster and more secure service delivery to millions of customers. Ammara Masood, GM Global BFS at Systems Limited, highlighted that the successful go live demonstrates the company’s capability to execute large scale multi country banking modernization programs, reinforcing the long term strategic foundation required for continued growth and operational advancement in the financial sector.
