Pakistan to Establish National Cyber Security Authority by 2025

Pakistan is set to launch the National Cyber Security Authority by next year, marking a significant step towards bolstering the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure. The new authority will be responsible for ensuring that organizations deploy security-certified infrastructures to prevent data breaches and cyber attacks.

According to Dr. Haider Abbas, Director General/Head of National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT), the National CERT will be transformed into the National Cyber Security Authority of Pakistan by 2025. A lab will be established to certify that organizations’ hardware and software meet stringent security standards before deployment.

The National Cyber Security Authority aims to bridge the gap between government organizations and the private sector, promoting collaboration and public-private partnerships to enhance cybersecurity in Pakistan.

During his keynote address at the Information Security Conference by Total Communications, held in Karachi last week, Dr. Haider emphasized that lab certification will become mandatory in the near future to ensure foolproof security measures. Dr. Haider’s session elaborated on 𝘗𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯’𝘴 𝘊𝘺𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴: 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘢𝘱. He acknowledged that Pakistan currently lacks basic cybersecurity infrastructure and ranks 79th globally in cybersecurity measures. However, initiatives are underway to improve the ranking to 50th position.
