National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) of Pakistan has successfully conducted a five day Certified Network Defender (CND) training program for government officials as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities across the public sector. Organized by National CERT Capacity Building Directorate, the program was designed to enhance network defense expertise, improve cyber defense skills, and support the development of stronger cyber resilience within government institutions. The initiative reflects National CERT continued focus on equipping public sector professionals with practical knowledge and technical capabilities required to address the evolving cybersecurity challenges facing critical government infrastructure and digital services.
A total of 42 government employees representing various ministries, divisions, and attached departments participated in the training program. Conducted in accordance with National CERT Cybersecurity Training Guidelines, the course covered a broad range of technical and operational topics related to network defense. Participants received instruction on network security architecture, network defense strategies, threat detection and analysis, intrusion detection and prevention systems, firewall configuration and management, network traffic monitoring, endpoint security, incident response procedures, log analysis, network vulnerability assessment, and internationally recognized best practices for protecting critical network infrastructure. The curriculum was developed to strengthen participants’ understanding of defensive cybersecurity measures while improving their ability to identify, respond to, and mitigate security threats within government networks.
The training sessions combined theoretical instruction with practical learning experiences to provide participants with hands on exposure to real world cybersecurity scenarios. Expert led lectures were supported by laboratory exercises, attack and defense simulations, network security demonstrations, and collaborative technical discussions that enabled attendees to apply their knowledge in realistic environments. According to National CERT, participants remained actively engaged throughout the five day program, demonstrating strong enthusiasm and commitment to improving their technical capabilities. The interactive approach allowed government officials to strengthen practical skills related to network monitoring, defensive security operations, incident handling, and proactive protection of organizational infrastructure. By incorporating simulated attack scenarios and practical exercises, the program aimed to prepare participants for the increasingly complex cybersecurity threats facing government organizations and critical digital services.
The training concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony where Director Capacity Building, Mr. Khurram Javed, presented certificates of participation to all attendees. During the ceremony, he acknowledged the dedication, active participation, and professional commitment demonstrated by the participants throughout the program. He also reaffirmed National CERT commitment to strengthening Pakistan cybersecurity workforce through continuous capacity building initiatives that promote technical excellence and professional development across government institutions. National CERT stated that such training programs play an important role in enhancing national cyber defense capabilities while fostering a stronger cybersecurity culture throughout the public sector. Through structured technical education and practical cybersecurity training, the organization continues to support the development of skilled professionals capable of protecting government networks, improving institutional cyber resilience, and contributing to Pakistan secure digital transformation objectives.
