Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday held a meeting with a delegation from Egypt to discuss expanding cooperation in several key areas, including security, cybercrime, narcotics control, counter terrorism, and safe city initiatives. According to Pakistan’s interior ministry, both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration between the interior ministries of Pakistan and Egypt to improve bilateral coordination in areas of mutual interest. The meeting reflected growing engagement between the two countries on internal security matters and institutional cooperation, particularly in law enforcement and capacity building.
The Egyptian delegation was led by Major General Magdy Helal and included Brigadier Essam Abu Al Khair, Brigadier Engineer Mohamed Rady, and Brigadier Dr Mohamed Mounir. During discussions, both delegations explored ways to improve cooperation in policing, training, and intelligence sharing while also reviewing opportunities for collaboration in addressing modern security challenges. The ministry stated that it was agreed cooperation between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and Egypt’s police academy would be expanded to facilitate joint training programs for officers. Officials said such initiatives would allow both countries to exchange professional expertise and strengthen institutional learning in law enforcement practices.
Speaking during the meeting, Naqvi said the visit by the Egyptian delegation would help identify new opportunities for bilateral cooperation and deepen relations between Islamabad and Cairo. He stated that practical measures would be taken to further strengthen ties between the two countries and confirmed that a Pakistani delegation would soon visit Egypt to explore additional avenues of cooperation in areas of shared interest. According to the ministry, Naqvi emphasized that stronger coordination between the interior ministries of Pakistan and Egypt would contribute positively to bilateral relations while supporting efforts to address emerging security and internal safety concerns.
State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, who was also present during the meeting, highlighted the broad opportunities available for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as counter terrorism, narcotics control, and internal security. The interior ministry added that members of the Egyptian delegation described their visits to several Pakistani institutions, including the Anti Narcotics Force and National Police Academy, as highly productive and informative. Delegation members reportedly noted that both countries could benefit from sharing experiences and expertise across different sectors, particularly in strengthening institutional frameworks for law enforcement and public safety. The discussions also reflected a shared interest in improving collaboration against cybercrime and enhancing urban security through safe city initiatives, areas that continue to gain importance amid evolving regional and global security challenges.
