NCCIA Investigates Fake Booking Scheme Targeting InDrive Drivers In Pakistan

NCCIA Islamabad has registered a case against suspects allegedly involved in an online fraud scheme targeting InDrive drivers through fake ride and delivery bookings. According to an NCCIA official, the individuals allegedly posed as senior government officials and used fabricated emergency situations to persuade drivers to transfer money. The case was initiated after reports indicated that drivers had received booking requests through the ride hailing platform before being contacted with requests for urgent financial assistance. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the full scope of the alleged operation.

According to officials, the suspects allegedly relied on fake identification cards and WhatsApp accounts to create the appearance of legitimate government representatives. After securing the confidence of drivers through ride or delivery bookings, they reportedly contacted them with claims of unexpected medical emergencies or other urgent situations requiring immediate financial assistance. Drivers were allegedly persuaded to transfer funds through mobile banking services after believing the requests were genuine. Once the money had been received, the bookings were reportedly cancelled, and communication with the drivers ceased. Investigators are examining available digital evidence and transaction records to establish how the alleged scheme operated and whether additional individuals may have been involved.

NCCIA stated that the investigation is continuing to trace those connected with the suspected fraud and collect further evidence. Authorities are reviewing digital accounts, communication records, and other relevant information to determine the extent of the alleged activity. The agency noted that cyber enabled fraud continues to evolve through the misuse of widely used digital communication platforms and online services, making awareness and timely reporting important elements in supporting investigations. Officials have not disclosed additional operational details while inquiries remain underway.

Alongside the investigation, NCCIA advised citizens, particularly ride hailing drivers and delivery partners, to exercise caution when receiving requests for financial assistance from individuals encountered through online booking platforms. Officials encouraged drivers to verify the identity of anyone requesting money and avoid transferring funds solely on the basis of unverified emergency claims or messages received through WhatsApp or other communication channels. Drivers were also urged to remain alert to suspicious booking patterns and report suspected online fraud to NCCIA so that appropriate action can be taken. The agency said prompt reporting can assist investigators in identifying similar schemes and help reduce the risk of additional people being affected by comparable fraudulent activities.
