NCCIA Establishes Cyber Units To Monitor Online Information Threats

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has established special units aimed at addressing concerns related to fake news and online propaganda, while cyber patrolling units have been made operational across all regions to monitor cyberspace activities. According to NCCIA, the measures are part of efforts to strengthen its monitoring capabilities, improve complaint handling processes and enhance its response to cyber-related matters. The development was reviewed during a five-day visit of all NCCIA circles in Punjab by Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who inspected reporting centres, police stations and agency offices while engaging directly with more than 500 complainants.

During the tour, the NCCIA Director General reviewed the overall performance of different circles, including the status of complaints, ongoing cases, investigation activities, complaint cells, FIR branches, record management systems and other administrative functions. The agency said that the establishment of dedicated units reflects its focus on improving monitoring and response mechanisms in the digital environment. Cyber patrolling teams operating across regions will support efforts to observe online activities and identify issues requiring attention, while specialised units will focus on addressing cases involving misleading information and other online concerns. The agency stated that these measures are intended to strengthen oversight of cyberspace while improving coordination between different operational areas.

NCCIA said it has adopted a zero tolerance policy against fake news and anti state propaganda, adding that investigations and enforcement measures would continue to follow principles of transparency and merit. Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi directed officials to make the complaint registration and verification process more accessible for citizens and ensure that available resources are used to provide timely support. He also emphasised the importance of improving services for cybercrime victims by ensuring faster processing of complaints, transparent investigations and better record maintenance across NCCIA offices.

The Director General further instructed officers to enhance overall performance, improve the disposal of pending complaints and strengthen investigation procedures. During meetings with officials, he assessed operational challenges and reviewed the progress of different branches responsible for handling complaints and investigations. NCCIA highlighted that improving institutional capacity, maintaining accurate records and ensuring efficient case management are important elements of strengthening cybercrime response capabilities. The agency’s latest measures come as digital platforms continue to expand as major sources of communication and information sharing in Pakistan. With increasing online activity, authorities and organisations are focusing on improving cyber monitoring, public complaint mechanisms and awareness around responsible digital engagement. NCCIA’s establishment of specialised units and regional cyber patrolling teams represents an effort to enhance its operational approach toward managing cyber-related challenges while improving the overall efficiency of its services for citizens.
