Lahore Police Investigates Alleged PUBG Linked Bank Robbery Incident

Lahore police have taken action in a bank robbery case in which a young man was allegedly involved after receiving what authorities described as a “bank robbery task” linked to the PUBG game. According to police officials, the suspect allegedly took Rs700,000 from a bank near Bhatta Chowk in Defence, Lahore, before leaving the scene. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated that the incident occurred at around 9:30am when a masked individual entered the bank premises and allegedly held the security guard hostage before reaching the cash counter and leaving with the money. Police said the incident was completed within a few minutes, following which teams were formed after receiving an emergency call to investigate the matter.

According to the DIG, police traced the suspect through Safe City surveillance systems and private security cameras, which helped investigators identify his movements after the incident. The suspect was located at his residence, which was a short distance away from the bank. Police identified him as Subhan, who had returned to Pakistan from the United Kingdom on September 16 and was living alone in Lahore while his family remained abroad. During the investigation, officials said the suspect’s connection with online gaming was examined after he reportedly mentioned PUBG during questioning. Police stated that he had been playing the game for several years and allegedly claimed that he received a task related to a bank robbery before carrying out the incident.

DIG Faisal Kamran said investigators considered the suspect’s statements while examining the circumstances surrounding the case, including previous concerns involving young individuals and online gaming influences. According to police, the suspect also described methods that were allegedly shown in the game related to carrying out a bank robbery. Officials said the suspect was planning to travel to Islamabad with the money when police conducted a raid at his residence. During the operation, police reported recovering the alleged looted cash, a weapon, and a briefcase from the location. Officials also stated that the suspect had changed the number plates of his vehicle in an attempt to avoid identification during the investigation.

The DIG further stated that initial findings suggested financial difficulties may have contributed to the incident. According to police, the suspect had returned to Pakistan with £1,200 but later spent the amount and had been requesting additional financial support from his family. Officials said that after his family did not provide further assistance, he allegedly planned the robbery to address his financial situation. Police also stated that online gaming and web series were among the factors being examined during the investigation. The case highlights broader concerns around digital entertainment platforms, online influence, and the importance of understanding how young users interact with internet based content.

While online gaming platforms are widely used for entertainment and social interaction, cybersecurity and digital safety experts continue to emphasize responsible usage, especially among younger audiences. Investigations into incidents involving online platforms require careful examination of individual circumstances, digital activity, and other contributing factors before conclusions are reached. Lahore police said further investigation into the case would continue as authorities review the available evidence and details surrounding the alleged incident. The case has also renewed discussions around digital awareness, online behavior, and the need for families and communities to remain engaged with young users’ internet activities.
