Islamabad based National CERT has conducted a specialized cybersecurity capacity building training session focused on effective incident management and response for its officials at its headquarters. The training was designed to strengthen institutional preparedness and enhance the technical capabilities of personnel responsible for handling cyber threats, ensuring faster and more coordinated response mechanisms across different operational domains. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to improve readiness in dealing with evolving cyber incidents that can impact national digital infrastructure.
The program followed a Whole of Organization approach, bringing together SOC resource persons along with professionals from IT operations, data center management, and other technical departments. This cross functional participation allowed attendees to develop a unified understanding of cybersecurity incident handling rather than working in isolated technical silos. The structure of the training emphasized collaboration across teams, ensuring that incident identification, escalation, and response procedures are understood and applied consistently across all relevant functions within the organization. By integrating multiple domains, the session aimed to improve coordination during real time security incidents and strengthen internal communication pathways.
The training was conducted by Mubashir Sargana, serving as National CERT Distinguished Trainer under the Distinguished Trainer Program. The session focused on core areas of cybersecurity incident management, including detection and identification of security incidents, structured response workflows, coordination strategies between technical teams, and recovery practices following an incident. Participants were guided through foundational principles that support effective handling of cyber events, with an emphasis on structured processes that reduce response time and improve decision making during security disruptions. The training also highlighted the importance of maintaining operational continuity while addressing security incidents in complex digital environments.
The initiative forms part of National CERT’s broader mandate to enhance Pakistan’s cyber resilience through continuous learning and skill development programs. By investing in structured training and inter departmental collaboration, the organization aims to build a more capable cybersecurity workforce that can respond effectively to a wide range of threats. The focus remains on strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring that officials are equipped with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to manage incidents across different levels of severity. These efforts contribute to building a more coordinated and prepared cybersecurity ecosystem within the country.
