National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has taken a 17 year old student into custody in Bahawalpur over allegations that he attempted to poison his father after reportedly seeking guidance from artificial intelligence on administering a potentially fatal substance. According to NCCIA, the student is a second year college student and the only son of his parents. Authorities said the case emerged after information was received through an automated monitoring system, prompting officials to begin an investigation. The matter remains under investigation, and officials have stressed that the available details are based on preliminary findings.
According to NCCIA spokesperson, investigators believe the teenager had developed strained relations with his father following a personal disagreement. During the inquiry, authorities reportedly found that the student had developed a strong interest in chemistry after watching the American television series Breaking Bad. Investigators said he had established a small laboratory at his home where he conducted chemical experiments. Preliminary findings suggest that chemical materials had been obtained from sources in Australia and Islamabad before a substance was prepared at home. Authorities further allege that the substance was administered to the student’s father on one occasion, although the attempt did not achieve its intended outcome. Investigators later found indications that the teenager had reportedly turned to artificial intelligence tools for additional guidance, asking questions about administering a poison that could cause death without attracting attention. NCCIA has not disclosed the specific AI platform involved, while officials continue to examine digital evidence and the online interactions connected to the case.
Following the initial intelligence received through its automated system, Punjab NCCIA Director Hissam Bin Iqbal directed the formation of a dedicated investigation team to examine the matter. The team subsequently conducted an operation in Bahawalpur and took the suspect into custody for further questioning. Officials said the ongoing investigation is focused on determining the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, identifying the chemicals involved, verifying how they were obtained, and examining the suspect’s online activities. Authorities are also assessing whether any additional digital tools or online resources may have contributed to the planning process. Since the suspect is a minor, the investigation is expected to proceed in accordance with applicable legal procedures while preserving due process. NCCIA has not released further operational details, stating that additional findings will depend on the outcome of forensic examinations and the continuing inquiry.
