National CERT Launches Second Cohort Of Cyber Champs Internship Program For Young Cybersecurity Learners

National CERT has commenced the second cohort of its six week Cyber Champs Internship Program, an initiative designed to promote cyber awareness, digital resilience, and responsible online behavior among children in Pakistan. Building on the impact of the inaugural edition, the program aims to equip young learners with essential cybersecurity knowledge through interactive and practical learning experiences that encourage safe and responsible use of digital technologies. The initiative forms part of National CERT’s broader efforts to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and build a more informed and resilient digital society.

The opening session of the internship program was led by Ms. Zaheema Iqbal, Assistant Director Advisories and Communications at National CERT, who welcomed the participants and introduced them to the structure, objectives, and learning journey of the six week program. The inaugural ceremony also featured the distribution of souvenirs to participants, symbolizing their commitment to becoming ambassadors of cyber safety and responsible digital citizenship. Through this initiative, National CERT seeks to encourage children to adopt positive online behaviors from an early age and develop a stronger understanding of the risks and responsibilities associated with the digital world.

As part of the first day activities, participants attended an awareness session conducted by Mr. Khurram Javed, Director Capacity Building at National CERT. The session covered a wide range of cybersecurity topics that are increasingly important for young internet users and their families. Discussions focused on password security best practices, the protection of Personally Identifiable Information, Wi Fi security, mobile device and application security, phishing prevention techniques, and the importance of safeguarding digital footprints. The session also addressed issues related to screen time management, recognizing cyber scams and financial fraud, and understanding the risks associated with cyber harassment. To reinforce learning, the program included an engaging hands on activity that allowed participants to apply the concepts discussed during the session and gain practical experience in identifying and responding to common cybersecurity challenges.

The Cyber Champs Internship Program 2026 reflects National CERT’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s cybersecurity ecosystem through education and capacity building initiatives that target the country’s younger generation. As digital technologies continue to become an integral part of education, communication, and daily life, experts increasingly emphasize the importance of teaching children how to navigate online environments safely and responsibly. By introducing young learners to cybersecurity concepts and encouraging good digital habits, National CERT aims to cultivate a generation of informed, vigilant, and cyber resilient citizens who can contribute to a safer digital environment. The initiative also highlights the growing recognition that cybersecurity awareness and digital literacy are essential components of national resilience and long term efforts to create a secure and trustworthy cyberspace for all users in Pakistan.
