National Cyber Emergency Response Team conducted a specialised training session at Information Services Academy focused on artificial intelligence for smart office work and cybersecurity awareness, bringing together civil servants from Pakistan’s Information Group for discussions on emerging technologies and digital resilience. The session, held as part of National CERT’s Distinguished Trainer Program, aimed to improve awareness around the growing role of AI in workplace environments while strengthening understanding of evolving cybersecurity risks and national preparedness efforts. Officials said the training was designed to help public sector professionals better understand practical applications of AI while also equipping participants with insights into cyber threats affecting digital systems and institutions.
The training session on “The Use of AI for Smart Office Work” was delivered by Ikram ul Haque Syed, a distinguished trainer at National CERT, alongside Zaheema Iqbal. During the session, participants were guided through an exploration of artificial intelligence concepts beginning with foundational computational ideas, including dynamic programming, and progressing toward the development and practical use of modern AI technologies. Discussions focused on how artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing workplace efficiency and reshaping office functions, particularly within administrative and decision making environments. Trainers also addressed broader debates surrounding AI, including the balance between using artificial intelligence as a productivity tool and concerns over its growing role as a substitute for human capabilities.
According to details shared during the session, participants examined the wider implications of AI in everyday life, including questions related to originality, human creativity, and the influence of intelligent systems on workplace practices. Trainers discussed what was described as the “ghost shadow” of AI, referring to the growing ability of artificial intelligence to imitate personalities and communication styles. Potential risks associated with this capability were discussed alongside practical countermeasures intended to support responsible adoption and safe usage. The session concluded with a discussion around fostering original thinking within professional environments through what trainers referred to as the 3Es framework, consisting of exposure, exploration, and evaluation of AI driven tools to help employees make informed and effective use of emerging technologies.
In addition to discussions on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity awareness formed a central part of the training programme. Zaheema Iqbal briefed participants on Pakistan’s cybersecurity threat landscape, highlighting emerging digital risks, current preparedness measures, and initiatives being undertaken by National CERT to strengthen national cyber resilience. The session also covered contemporary security challenges affecting digital systems and institutions, helping participants understand the importance of cyber awareness within government operations and public service delivery. Attendees actively participated throughout the programme, contributing perspectives on AI adoption, cybersecurity preparedness, and workplace transformation while demonstrating interest in how technology can be effectively integrated into public sector operations and digital governance frameworks.
