National CERT Launches Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program With Focus On National Cyber Threat Landscape And Strategic Awareness

National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) Pakistan has officially commenced its Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program with its first training session held at its headquarters in Islamabad. The inaugural session, titled National Cyber Threat Landscape and Strategic Awareness, was designed specifically for senior leadership and executive management drawn from ministries, sector regulators, academia, as well as public and private sector organizations. The gathering reflected broad participation across institutional domains, highlighting a coordinated approach toward strengthening cybersecurity governance frameworks and reinforcing resilience at the national level.

The program has been developed with a focus on enhancing executive level understanding of cybersecurity challenges and equipping leadership with the capacity to guide resilience strategies within their respective organizations. It is structured to strengthen governance mechanisms, align cybersecurity priorities with organizational planning, and support the development of a security conscious culture across institutions. By targeting decision makers at the strategic level, National CERT aims to ensure that cybersecurity considerations are integrated into policy formation, operational planning, and risk management processes across multiple sectors. The initiative is also positioned to support Pakistan’s broader cyber preparedness objectives by improving coordination and awareness among senior stakeholders responsible for critical infrastructure and institutional oversight.

The opening session was conducted by Mr. Haris Shamsi and Mr. Abu Baker Gondal from YOTTABYTE, who provided detailed insights into evolving cyber threat patterns and their implications for organizations operating in increasingly complex digital environments. The discussion included real world case studies that illustrated the nature of modern cyber incidents, alongside an overview of national cybersecurity policies and operational frameworks that guide response and mitigation efforts. The speakers also highlighted the role of National CERT in coordinating national level cyber defense mechanisms and emphasized the importance of interagency collaboration in addressing emerging risks. Cyber risk was presented not only as a technical concern but also as a significant business, operational, and reputational factor that demands continuous attention from leadership teams across sectors.

The session featured active participation from attendees representing diverse institutions, contributing to an interactive exchange of perspectives on cybersecurity governance and organizational readiness. Discussions centered on practical approaches to improving cyber awareness at leadership level and strengthening internal coordination structures that support timely decision making during potential security incidents. The engagement also reflected growing recognition among senior stakeholders of the need to adopt structured cybersecurity strategies that align with institutional objectives and national priorities. National CERT reiterated its ongoing commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s cybersecurity posture through leadership development, capacity building initiatives, and sustained collaboration across government and private sector entities. The Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program is expected to continue with additional sessions aimed at further deepening strategic understanding and supporting the development of resilient digital ecosystems across the country.
