Islamabad based National Cyber Emergency Response Team, widely known as National CERT, participated actively in the Cyber Uraan Hackathon Batch 2 as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s cybersecurity posture through structured engagement and capacity building initiatives. The participation reflected the organization’s continued focus on knowledge sharing and collaborative learning across the cybersecurity ecosystem. During the event, National CERT was represented by Ms. Zaheema Iqbal, Assistant Director Advisories and Communications, who contributed in multiple roles including panel discussion participation and technical training delivery, supporting the broader objective of developing a more informed and prepared digital workforce in the country.
As part of the hackathon proceedings, Ms. Zaheema Iqbal conducted a detailed training session titled Pakistan Cyber Threat Landscape and Recent Initiatives. The session provided participants with an in depth understanding of emerging cyber threats affecting the region, along with evolving attack patterns and methodologies being observed across different digital environments. The discussion also covered strategic initiatives being implemented at the national level to counter these risks, emphasizing the importance of coordinated defense mechanisms, timely information sharing, and structured response frameworks. The training highlighted how cyber resilience depends on both institutional readiness and the active involvement of informed stakeholders across sectors.
The engagement also focused on strengthening awareness around the importance of preparedness in addressing modern cybersecurity challenges. Participants were introduced to the dynamic nature of cyber threats and the need for continuous adaptation in security strategies. The session underscored how organizations and individuals must remain vigilant in identifying vulnerabilities and responding effectively to incidents. By combining theoretical insights with practical perspectives, the training aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real world application, ensuring that participants could better understand the operational realities of cybersecurity defense and threat mitigation.
National CERT continues to prioritize youth engagement as a core element of its national cyber defense strategy. Initiatives such as Cyber Uraan Hackathon serve as important platforms for nurturing technical skills among emerging professionals and students, enabling them to gain exposure to real time cybersecurity challenges. These programs play a key role in developing the next generation of cybersecurity talent by fostering hands on learning and encouraging active participation in problem solving environments. Through sustained collaboration with academic institutions, government bodies, and industry stakeholders, National CERT remains focused on building a secure, resilient, and digitally empowered Pakistan, while strengthening the overall cybersecurity ecosystem through continuous capacity development efforts.
