National CERT Pakistan Collaborates With Partners To Promote Child Online Safety

National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan, also known as National CERT, partnered with National Commission on the Rights of Child Pakistan, UNICEF Pakistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA, and Telenor Pakistan to organize the event “Safer Futures Online: Awareness to Action.” The initiative highlighted the collective commitment to creating safer digital spaces for children while emphasizing the importance of equipping young users with knowledge and confidence to navigate online environments responsibly. The event also focused on fostering cross-sector partnerships and mapping clear strategies for sustained action, innovation, and long-term cyber resilience across the country.

Representing National CERT, Director Capacity Building Mr. Khurram Javed emphasized the cybersecurity dimension of Child Online Protection COP, stressing the need for robust technical safeguards, early-warning systems, and rapid response mechanisms within national institutions. He noted that while digital technology expands educational and social opportunities for children, it also brings risks that can quickly transition from online spaces into real-life consequences. Mr. Javed highlighted the importance of educating children about online threats, familiarizing them with relevant laws, and making them aware of reporting mechanisms. He underlined that ensuring a safe internet environment is a shared responsibility involving parents, educators, communities, and institutions. National CERT, he affirmed, remains committed to translating awareness into actionable and sustainable protection measures.

A key feature of the event was a panel discussion titled “Partnership to Protection: Building a Collective Response.” Representatives from NCRC, NCCIA, PTA, National CERT, and the Ministry of Planning engaged in discussions around establishing a coordinated national referral system for Child Online Protection. Mr. Khurram Javed highlighted the need for interoperable reporting channels, multi-agency coordination, and real-time information sharing to efficiently address cyber incidents involving children. The session underscored the importance of structured collaboration among government bodies, private sector partners, and civil society to strengthen preventive and responsive measures in child-focused cybersecurity.

National CERT reiterated its ongoing commitment to nurturing a secure digital ecosystem in Pakistan. Through continued development of cybersecurity capabilities, promotion of public-private partnerships, and empowerment of children and caregivers with essential knowledge and practical tools, the agency aims to create environments where online learning and engagement can flourish safely. The event “Safer Futures Online” reflected the emphasis on translating awareness into practical measures, ensuring children benefit from digital technology while minimizing exposure to potential threats. Through initiatives like this, National CERT continues to advance Pakistan’s capacity to protect its youngest digital users and strengthen national cyber resilience.
