Safe City cameras operated by Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) played a key role in helping investigators identify a suspect involved in an incident involving a female scooty rider on Mozang Link Road in Lahore. Police officials said the suspect, identified as Ghulam Mustafa, was tracked through footage captured by multiple PSCA cameras along with traditional investigation methods. Following the identification process, the suspect was taken into custody and a case was registered after a complaint was submitted by the victim’s father. The use of digital surveillance technology in the investigation highlights the role of smart monitoring systems in supporting public safety efforts and assisting authorities in responding to incidents in busy urban areas.
The incident took place late on Thursday and gained public attention after CCTV footage from the area was widely circulated. According to the available footage, the suspect allegedly approached the female scooty rider on a busy road, moved his motorcycle in front of her two wheeler and confronted her in front of several people present at the location. The footage showed a physical altercation during which the woman sustained injuries. Police officials said the victim suffered facial injuries, including a nasal bone fracture, following the incident. The case attracted attention due to the presence of several bystanders at the scene, with questions raised about public response and the importance of timely assistance during such situations.
According to police officials, the suspect also allegedly damaged personal belongings of the victim during the incident. Officials stated that the woman’s bag was thrown onto the road and contained a laptop valued at around Rs90,000, which was severely damaged. After the incident, the suspect left the location. A special police team formed under the supervision of Civil Lines Superintendent of Police (SP) Maniza Karamat worked on identifying and locating the individual through available evidence. Investigators used information collected from dozens of PSCA cameras installed across Lahore along with other investigative techniques to trace the suspect and proceed with legal action. The case was registered based on the complaint submitted by the victim’s family, while further proceedings will continue according to legal procedures.
The incident also highlights the growing role of technology based monitoring systems in supporting investigations and improving response capabilities in major cities. PSCA’s network of surveillance cameras is designed to assist law enforcement agencies by providing digital evidence, monitoring public spaces and supporting investigations involving incidents reported across Lahore. As urban areas continue to expand, smart city technologies are becoming increasingly important for improving safety, assisting authorities and strengthening evidence collection processes. The use of Safe City cameras in this case demonstrates how digital infrastructure can support investigations by helping authorities review events, identify individuals involved and take action based on available information. Through continued development of surveillance networks and improved coordination between technology platforms and law enforcement departments, cities can enhance their ability to respond to public safety concerns.
