In a recent advisory, the National Computer Emergency Response Team (PKCERT) has dispelled rumours of a nationwide shutdown of ATMs and online banking services. The false claims, which circulated on social media, caused unnecessary panic among the public.
PKCERT’s advisory assures that there have been no reports of disruptions to banking infrastructure or cyber threats to ATMs and online banking services. All banking services, including ATMs and online banking, are functioning normally, and there is no reason to panic.
The advisory warned against sharing misleading information on social media platforms and advised users to take precautions to secure their banking information. These include logging out of banking apps after use, regularly checking bank statements for suspicious transactions, and keeping ATM card PINs, OTPs, and passwords confidential.
The clarification came after a viral message claimed that ATMs would be closed due to a ransomware cyberattack and warned against opening suspicious emails and videos. PKCERT has confirmed that these claims are baseless and urged users to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their online security.
