PKCERT and FAST NUCES Forge Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Cybersecurity and Technological Innovation

At the recently held International Conference on IT and Industrial Technologies (ICIT 2024), hosted by FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST NUCES), the Pakistan Cyber Emergency Response Team (PKCERT) and FAST NUCES entered into a strategic partnership to enhance cybersecurity capacity and foster technological innovation in Pakistan.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Haider Abbas, TI, Director General of PKCERT, and Dr. Aftab Maroof, Rector FAST NUCES. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Shahzad Sarfraz, Director FAST NUCES, and other senior representatives from both institutions, underscoring the importance of this collaboration in addressing Pakistan’s national cybersecurity priorities.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive collaboration designed to tackle the country’s evolving cybersecurity landscape. By combining the expertise and resources of both organizations, the agreement focuses on delivering advanced training programs, cutting-edge research initiatives, and hands-on opportunities in key areas such as Incident Response, Forensic Investigation, Vulnerability Assessment, Penetration Testing, and Policy Development. The partnership will also focus on the development of tailored cybersecurity technologies that align with Pakistan’s specific needs.

Additionally, the agreement highlights the importance of raising cybersecurity awareness through seminars, workshops, and knowledge exchange initiatives, alongside creating opportunities for student internships and job placements. These initiatives aim to prepare a competent and industry-ready workforce capable of addressing modern cybersecurity challenges.

The collaboration also emphasizes innovation through research on AI/ML-driven autonomous cybersecurity systems and prototype-focused projects to counter emerging cyber threats. By fostering these initiatives, PKCERT and FAST NUCES aim to advance national security, equip professionals with essential skills, and provide impactful technological solutions.
