Pakistan Single Window (PSW) has received international recognition after its Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS) was acknowledged at United Nations ESCAP APTFF Innovation Awards 2026 held in Bangkok, Thailand. The recognition highlights Pakistan’s ongoing efforts toward digital governance, trade facilitation, and risk based systems designed to modernize cross border trade processes. According to details shared by PSW leadership, the award reflects years of institutional planning, regulatory support, and collaborative engagement among government agencies working to streamline Pakistan’s trade ecosystem through digital transformation initiatives. Officials associated with the initiative stated that the achievement carries significance not only because of international recognition but also due to the structural, legal, and governance mechanisms that supported development of the platform.
Pakistan Single Window explained that Integrated Risk Management System was developed through a framework supported by PSW Act 2021, which established a legal mandate making participation compulsory for relevant institutions involved in trade facilitation and border management processes. Officials highlighted that one of the key strengths behind the initiative has been the existence of a governance structure capable of sustaining continuity despite political transitions, helping ensure long term institutional stability and uninterrupted development. The organization also pointed to its in house Centre of Excellence, which has enabled internal expertise, technical ownership, and continuity of institutional knowledge without depending on outsourcing for core operational memory. According to PSW representatives, years of planning, implementation, operational challenges, and institutional learning contributed to the eventual creation of a system that gained recognition on an international platform.
The Integrated Risk Management System forms part of broader efforts aimed at building a paperless, accountable, and risk based trade facilitation environment in Pakistan. Through the platform, authorities seek to improve efficiency, reduce administrative bottlenecks, and enhance coordination between public institutions involved in trade oversight and customs related functions. Pakistan Single Window noted that the achievement reflects collective contributions from several partner institutions, including Pakistan Customs under Federal Board of Revenue, Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan, and various Other Government Agencies (OGAs) engaged in trade regulation and border management. Officials stated that collaboration among these stakeholders has remained essential in supporting a shared objective of improving transparency, digitization, and operational effectiveness within Pakistan’s import and export ecosystem.
PSW leadership also acknowledged United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UN ESCAP) and Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Forum (APTFF) for providing a platform that recognizes innovation in trade facilitation and digital governance initiatives across the region. Team members and institutional partners involved in the development and implementation of Integrated Risk Management System were credited for their contributions to the initiative. Individuals recognized in relation to the effort included Naveed Abbas Memon, Maria Shams, Maryam Saeed, Azeem Afzal, Muhammad Asim Awan, Zubia Raza, Azka Rehman, Yann Duval, Pierre Bonthonneau, Raz Bhatti, and Ziyaad Butler. The recognition at APTFF Innovation Awards 2026 adds to Pakistan’s growing visibility in digital governance discussions, particularly in areas involving trade modernization, risk management, and public sector technology adoption.
