The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (I&P) has finalized plans for the introduction of a new passport booklet featuring an updated design and enhanced security features. The development follows a review visit by Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Rindhava to Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC), where officials assessed passport production processes, reviewed existing security measures, and completed discussions on the design and printing specifications for the upcoming passport booklet. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the security and integrity of Pakistan travel documents while ensuring the passport issuance system continues to meet evolving international standards.
During the visit, Muhammad Ali Rindhava toured PSPC production facilities to gain a detailed overview of the current passport manufacturing process and the technologies used to protect official travel documents from counterfeiting and unauthorized alteration. Officials from Immigration and Passports Department and PSPC held discussions on incorporating additional security features into the new passport booklet while also reviewing the technical specifications required for its production. Among the proposals discussed was the introduction of modern security technology on the passport polycarbonate data page, which is widely used in contemporary travel documents because of its durability and ability to accommodate advanced security elements. The review also covered the overall design of the booklet to ensure that it aligns with the latest production and security requirements while maintaining compatibility with passport verification systems used by border management authorities.
Officials also examined a phased roadmap for issuing the new passport booklet, with planning focused on ensuring a smooth transition from the existing passport format to the updated version.
