NCERT Strengthens National Defense: 2-Day Cybersecurity Training for Government

National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) successfully concluded a two-day intensive training program on “Cybersecurity Compliance and Auditing” for Pakistan’s government sector. Held at the prestigious Nawaz Shaheed Auditorium, Military College of Signals, NUST, Rawalpindi, the sessions on May 14th and 29th, 2024, reflect NCERT’s commitment to fortifying the cybersecurity posture of government institutions nationwide.

Aligning with National and International Standards

The program aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to comply with Pakistan’s National Cybersecurity Policy, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and ISO 27001 standards within their respective ministries and departments. Led by Dr. Haider Abbas (TI), Director General of National CERT- Pakistan CERT, the training covered various critical information assurance topics, including:

  • Critical Asset Identification and Valuation
  • Threat and Vulnerability Identification
  • Risk Assessment Methodologies
  • Gap Analysis
  • Risk Mitigation Strategies
  • Risk Treatment Plans

Utilizing real-world case studies, the sessions provided participants with valuable insights and practical guidance. This knowledge will empower ministries to effectively implement Pakistan’s National Cybersecurity Policy, integrate international best practices, and adhere to established guidelines.

The training program attracted a diverse audience, including a large number of representatives from various government organizations across Pakistan and students from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). Notably, NUST students will leverage the acquired knowledge by collaborating with government sector organizations to initiate the deployment of cybersecurity standards, fostering sustainable and robust cybersecurity programs within these institutions.
