NCCIA Summons Pakistani Artist Over Claims Of Online Cyberbullying

National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Pakistani television actress and model Momina Iqbal and a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) lawmaker on Thursday following allegations of prolonged online cyberbullying, harassment, and death threats raised by the artist through social media. The matter gained public attention after Momina’s claims went viral online, prompting authorities to initiate proceedings regarding the accusations involving a provincial assembly member from the ruling party.

According to NCCIA Punjab head Muhammad Ali Waseem, both parties have been called for questioning after the agency received an application related to the matter. Officials stated that the case would be handled strictly on merit as investigators begin reviewing the claims and available evidence. Sources familiar with the development said the agency moved quickly after the actress publicly appealed through social media and tagged senior PML N leadership in her statements. The issue reportedly also drew attention from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with party leadership seeking clarity over allegations that referenced individuals associated with the chief minister’s office. According to sources, senior leadership instructed authorities to immediately address the complaint and proceed with action if allegations against the lawmaker are substantiated through investigation.

In her online statement, Momina Iqbal alleged that she had faced online harassment, cyberbullying, and repeated death threats for an extended period, adding that the situation had affected both her personal wellbeing and that of her family. She claimed the alleged actions caused severe emotional distress and mental pressure for those close to her. Without publicly disclosing the identity of the lawmaker, the actress alleged that a member of the provincial assembly associated with PML N had been threatening her for a prolonged period. She further stated that she had repeatedly approached NCCIA and Federal Investigation Agency regarding the matter, but claimed no meaningful action had been taken despite her complaints.

The actress also alleged that instead of facilitating justice, attempts were made to suppress her concerns. In her public statement, she claimed individuals linked to the office of the chief minister discouraged her from raising the issue and attempted to prevent a fair inquiry. Momina urged authorities to ensure an impartial investigation, provide protection to her family, and pursue legal action against anyone found involved in the alleged cyberbullying and threats. She further warned that if the matter continued to be overlooked, she would consider holding a press conference to present evidence related to the alleged online abuse, intimidation, and efforts she claimed were made to silence her complaints while protecting a political figure. As authorities prepare to hear statements from both sides, attention remains focused on how the agency proceeds with the cyberbullying allegations and whether further developments emerge following the inquiry.
