NCCIA Investigates Social Media Case Following UK Agency Request

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has initiated legal action against a Larkana resident in a case involving alleged misuse of social media platforms following a request from the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA). The development highlights continued cooperation between Pakistani and international authorities in addressing digital safety concerns and responding to complaints involving online activities across different jurisdictions.

According to NCCIA Additional Director Tariq Nawaz, the UK’s National Crime Agency requested action regarding the case. The individual identified as Waqar Ahmed, a resident of Larkana, was located in Qambar Shahdadkot during the investigation process. NCCIA officials stated that the individual was allegedly involved in sending inappropriate images to a British girl through social media applications. Officials added that a case has been registered and further legal proceedings are continuing as authorities review the available information and evidence related to the matter. The case reflects the growing importance of digital investigation mechanisms as online communication platforms continue to expand globally. Cybersecurity and law enforcement organizations are increasingly working together to address concerns linked with online interactions, digital privacy and responsible use of social media. NCCIA continues to handle reported digital incidents through legal procedures while coordinating with relevant national and international stakeholders where required.

In a separate development, NCCIA officials shared details of another investigation involving a 13-year-old girl in Karachi after receiving information from an international agency regarding suspicious online activity connected with a suspected dark web-related network. The information provided to Pakistani authorities included internet protocol (IP) addresses associated with the activity, which helped investigators identify and examine the situation. According to officials, the girl had become connected with an online group that allegedly assigned unsafe tasks through digital platforms. Investigators stated that the group provided instructions involving harmful activities, including an initial task related to an animal and another instruction that could have placed the girl at serious personal risk. NCCIA officials said their intervention helped identify and assist the girl before the later instruction could take place.

The developments highlight the challenges faced by authorities in protecting users from emerging online risks, especially when digital platforms are used to target vulnerable individuals. NCCIA and other relevant organizations continue to emphasize the importance of awareness, digital literacy and safe online practices for individuals, families and communities. With the increasing use of social media and online services, experts have stressed the need for stronger understanding of privacy settings, responsible internet usage and timely reporting of suspicious digital activity. Cooperation between cybersecurity bodies, international agencies and communities remains an important part of improving online protection and creating a safer digital environment. Through ongoing investigations, public awareness efforts and collaboration with international partners, NCCIA aims to strengthen responses to cyber-related concerns and support safer use of digital technologies across Pakistan. These cases further demonstrate the need for continued education around online safety and responsible engagement in the digital space.
