The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore Zone has taken action against three alleged fake call centers in Gulberg, Lahore, with 59 suspects taken into custody during operations conducted on Sunday. According to NCCIA officials, the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to address digital fraud activities and investigate misuse of technology platforms for unlawful financial activities. According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the individuals taken into custody included 52 men and seven women. During the operation, the agency recovered 61 laptops, 21 computer systems and 52 mobile phones from the locations. Officials stated that the recovered devices will undergo technical examination and digital analysis as part of the investigation process to collect further information related to the alleged activities.
The NCCIA spokesperson stated that the call centers were allegedly involved in contacting foreign nationals by offering mobile phone upgrades and low-cost service packages. Officials said the suspects allegedly used these methods to obtain financial benefits from individuals through misleading communications. The agency is examining the operational structure of the centers, communication methods and digital records recovered during the raids to determine further details. Officials further stated that the investigation also identified allegations related to unauthorized access to restaurant data through a fake application. According to the NCCIA spokesperson, information from restaurants registered through the application was allegedly accessed and weekly payments were redirected into accounts controlled by the suspects. The agency stated that financial records and digital trails are being reviewed to understand the movement of funds and identify possible connections.
The spokesperson added that the proceeds from the alleged activities were transferred through trading and money transfer applications. NCCIA officials are examining transaction records and other available digital evidence to support the ongoing investigation. The recovered devices and electronic records will play an important role in understanding the methods used and determining the involvement of individuals connected with the case. The agency stated that operations against fake call centers and digital fraud activities are part of broader efforts to improve online security and protect users from technology-related financial risks. NCCIA officials emphasized the importance of stronger awareness among individuals and organizations regarding suspicious online communications, unknown service offers and requests for personal or financial information.
The NCCIA spokesperson also highlighted concerns that such activities can affect Pakistan’s digital reputation internationally. With increasing reliance on online communication and digital services, authorities continue to focus on improving cybersecurity measures, investigating reported incidents and encouraging responsible use of technology. Through continued investigations and enforcement actions, NCCIA aims to address cyber-related concerns and strengthen confidence in Pakistan’s digital environment. The agency has advised citizens and businesses to remain cautious while interacting with unknown online contacts and to report suspicious digital activities through official channels.
