National CERT Organizes Specialized FIRST Security Training Course To Strengthen Cybersecurity Preparedness

National Cyber Emergency Response Team Pakistan organized a specialized cybersecurity capacity building program titled FIRST Security Training Course for its officials and technical resource persons at its headquarters in Islamabad. The training was conducted to enhance institutional readiness, improve operational resilience, and strengthen professional capabilities in response to evolving cyber threats. It focused on building structured response mechanisms and improving coordination among technical teams involved in national cyber defense operations.

The program was delivered under a Whole of Organization approach, bringing together resources from National CERT technical and operational tiers to develop a unified understanding of cybersecurity incident handling and coordinated response strategies. The training was designed to ensure that personnel across different functional roles could align their skills with standardized response frameworks. By integrating multiple operational layers into a single learning structure, the initiative aimed to improve efficiency in handling cybersecurity incidents and reinforce preparedness against complex digital threats targeting national infrastructure and services.

Key modules covered during the training included FIRST Security Boot Camp, DDoS Mitigation Fundamentals, and FIRST Threat Intelligence Pipelines. These modules were selected to provide participants with both foundational and advanced knowledge in incident response, attack mitigation techniques, and threat intelligence processing. The FIRST organization, recognized globally as the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams, is considered a leading authority in cybersecurity incident response practices. Alignment with its methodologies allows National CERT to strengthen its operational standards in line with international best practices and improve its ability to respond to large scale cyber incidents affecting critical systems.

The training sessions were conducted by Muhammad Asad Ul Rehman, who serves as a distinguished trainer under National CERT Distinguished Trainers Program. Participants actively engaged throughout the sessions, reflecting strong interest in advanced cybersecurity concepts and practical incident response methodologies. The interactive structure of the training allowed officials to discuss real world scenarios, operational challenges, and evolving threat landscapes that require rapid and coordinated action. Emphasis was placed on developing analytical skills for threat identification, improving response time during incidents, and enhancing collaboration between technical teams during cyber emergencies.

National CERT highlighted that initiatives such as the FIRST Security Training Course are part of its broader strategy to develop a secure and resilient digital environment for Pakistan. By continuously investing in skill development and knowledge enhancement, the organization aims to strengthen national cyber defense capabilities and improve readiness against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The training also supports the objective of building a future ready cybersecurity workforce capable of addressing both current and emerging risks in the digital ecosystem, ensuring sustained operational strength across critical infrastructure and government systems.
