National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) of Pakistan has concluded the pioneering cohort of its Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program with the sixth and final session held at its headquarters. The programme was designed as an executive capacity building initiative aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s national cyber resilience through strategic leadership, institutional collaboration and cross sector engagement. The completion of the first cohort marks the end of an intensive six session programme that brought senior executives and decision makers together to examine the evolving cybersecurity landscape and develop stronger approaches to organizational resilience. The initiative focused on preparing leadership from different sectors to respond more effectively to increasingly complex cyber threats while promoting cybersecurity governance and collaborative action.
The Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program was delivered through six immersive full day modules conducted fortnightly and brought together senior representatives from government ministries, sector regulators, academia, and public and private sector organizations. Throughout the programme, participants were engaged in discussions and learning activities focused on executive preparedness, cybersecurity governance, institutional resilience and the importance of coordinated action across different sectors. The programme was structured to provide senior decision makers with strategic knowledge relevant to cybersecurity challenges while encouraging a broader organizational culture of resilience. By bringing representatives from different parts of the national ecosystem into the same executive learning programme, National CERT aimed to strengthen understanding of the shared responsibilities involved in protecting digital systems and improving institutional preparedness.
The sixth and final session was delivered by Dr. Mukaram Khan, CISSP, CISA, Director General Cyber Vigilance and Chief Information Security Officer at Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The session focused on Leading Cybersecurity Transformation and examined the leadership mindset required to drive cybersecurity transformation within organizations. Discussions also covered human centric approaches to strengthening cyber awareness and organizational culture, integrating cybersecurity considerations into procurement and digital transformation initiatives, fostering collaboration between agencies and establishing mechanisms for continuous organizational improvement. As the capstone activity of the programme, participants developed Cyber Resilience Roadmaps tailored to their respective organizations. These roadmaps were intended to translate the knowledge and strategic insights gained during the six module programme into practical plans for strengthening cybersecurity governance, organizational resilience and long term preparedness within their institutions.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Haider Abbas, TI, Director General, National CERT, who addressed participants and congratulated them on successfully completing the pioneering cohort of the Executive Cybersecurity Leadership Program. In his remarks, he emphasized the important role of executive leadership in embedding cybersecurity into organizational strategies, strengthening institutional resilience and promoting sustained collaboration across sectors to protect Pakistan’s digital future. Certificates of completion were subsequently distributed among participants in recognition of their successful completion of the six module executive leadership programme. National CERT said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to developing a secure digital ecosystem through sustained capacity building and strategic collaboration. The completion of the first cohort provides a platform for strengthening executive level cybersecurity awareness and supporting organizations in developing structured approaches to resilience, governance and preparedness as Pakistan’s digital environment continues to expand.
