Kaspersky Analysis Reveals Rising Digital Safety Concerns For Children In Pakistan

Kaspersky has warned that children and young users in Pakistan may face increasing cybersecurity risks while using digital platforms, including multiplayer online games, social media applications, and artificial intelligence based tools. The cybersecurity company highlighted concerns around the changing online environment and advised users and families to remain aware of potential threats as children spend more time engaging with digital services. The warning follows an analysis conducted by Kaspersky experts that examined the digital interests and online activities of children across the META region, including Pakistan, during the first eight months of 2026.

According to Kaspersky’s analysis, YouTube remained the most popular mobile application among children in Pakistan during the reviewed period, accounting for 31.2 percent of usage. Instagram ranked second with 18.8 percent, followed by WhatsApp with 17.4 percent and Facebook with 10.8 percent. TikTok was ranked fifth among the most used mobile applications by children, representing 5.7 percent of activity. The findings provide insights into the platforms most frequently accessed by young users while also highlighting the need for greater awareness around digital security practices. As children increasingly use online platforms for entertainment, communication, and learning, cybersecurity experts emphasize the importance of understanding the possible risks associated with these services and adopting safer online habits.

Kaspersky’s research also identified multiplayer online gaming platforms among the commonly visited online resources used by children in Pakistan. Popular platforms such as Roblox, which can be accessed through smartphones and computers, and Discord, a communication and community platform, were among the resources used by young users. While online games and community platforms provide opportunities for interaction, creativity, and entertainment, they can also expose children to cybersecurity concerns due to direct communication features. Experts noted that multiplayer gaming environments allow users to interact with other players, including individuals they may not know personally, creating situations where children could encounter inappropriate content, suspicious interactions, or attempts to misuse online communication channels.

The cybersecurity company also highlighted emerging risks linked to the growth of generative artificial intelligence, particularly concerns related to deepfakes and digitally manipulated content. AI generated images, videos, and other fabricated materials can potentially be used in ways that affect children’s online safety, including cyberbullying and misuse of personal content shared on digital platforms. Kaspersky experts noted that photos, videos, and other information uploaded online may be repurposed to create manipulated content, making digital awareness and responsible online behavior increasingly important. The company’s findings underline the need for parents, educators, and young users to understand evolving cybersecurity threats while using social media, gaming platforms, and AI powered services. As digital platforms continue to become a larger part of children’s daily lives, maintaining awareness of online risks and encouraging safer internet practices remain important steps in protecting young users in the digital environment.
