A significant leadership change has reportedly taken place in Pakistan’s digital security landscape, with Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi expected to assume the role of Director General (DG) of National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). According to a report by ProPakistani, the appointment comes as part of a broader reshuffle within the federal capital’s policing and cybercrime administration. The reported move places an experienced law enforcement official at the helm of Pakistan’s dedicated cybercrime investigation agency, which is responsible for addressing a growing range of digital offenses across the country. While official notifications are expected to provide further clarity, the reported appointment has already drawn attention due to Rizvi’s extensive experience in policing and public security.
Before this reported appointment, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi served as Inspector General of Islamabad Police after taking charge of the force in April 2024. During his tenure, he supervised policing operations across the federal capital, coordinated security arrangements for high profile events, and oversaw measures aimed at maintaining law and order. His experience in managing complex law enforcement responsibilities is expected to support his transition into leading Pakistan’s primary cybercrime investigation agency. The reshuffle also creates a vacancy in Islamabad Police, where Captain (Retd.) Sohail Chaudhry has reportedly been appointed to replace Rizvi as the new Inspector General. NCCIA serves as Pakistan’s specialized agency for investigating cybercrime and addressing digital threats affecting individuals, businesses, and public institutions. The federal government established NCCIA as the country’s central agency dedicated exclusively to cybercrime investigations, replacing the cybercrime wing that previously operated under Federal Investigation Agency. Since its establishment, the organization has expanded its presence through offices in multiple cities, enabling citizens to report cyber related complaints directly to the agency for investigation and action.
