National CERT Conducts Cyber Defence Training For Bureau Of Emigration Officials In Pakistan

National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan, commonly known as National CERT, has conducted a specialized cybersecurity training session for officials of Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment under Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development at BE&OE Headquarters in Islamabad. The session focused on “Cyber Defence through Human Centered Risk Management” and was designed to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and improve institutional resilience against emerging digital threats. According to details shared by National CERT, the training was conducted in line with its established training guidelines and aimed at reinforcing the role of human behavior, cyber awareness, and proactive risk management in reducing exposure to evolving cybersecurity risks across public sector institutions.

The training session was delivered by Mr. Khurram Javed, Director Capacity Building at National CERT, who provided participants with practical guidance on identifying cyber risks and improving preparedness against online threats. Officials from various directorates of Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment attended the session and engaged in discussions related to current cybersecurity challenges, organizational readiness, and security best practices. During the programme, participants received insights into developing stronger awareness of digital risks while understanding the importance of maintaining a security focused workplace culture to protect institutional information assets. Discussions also explored how human centered cybersecurity measures can contribute to better risk mitigation and strengthen an organization’s ability to respond effectively to emerging threats.

National CERT stated that the training was developed to encourage proactive cyber defence by placing greater emphasis on employee awareness, responsible digital behavior, and preventive security measures. Public sector organizations increasingly face cyber related challenges linked to phishing, unauthorized access attempts, information theft, and social engineering activities, making cybersecurity readiness an important operational priority. Through practical learning and interactive engagement, the session sought to equip participants with a clearer understanding of how individual actions and organizational culture contribute to wider cybersecurity resilience. Officials attending the programme reportedly remained actively involved throughout the session, demonstrating interest in strengthening institutional preparedness and engaging in meaningful exchanges regarding cybersecurity practices relevant to government institutions.

Through capacity building initiatives such as this, National CERT continues to support cybersecurity awareness and preparedness efforts across Pakistan’s public sector. The organization stated that strengthening human centered risk management remains important in building resilient institutions capable of responding to increasingly complex cyber risks. By training public sector officials and promoting cybersecurity awareness, National CERT aims to help organizations develop stronger protective measures for digital systems and information assets while encouraging employees to act as the first line of defence against cyber threats. The latest training initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support a safer and more resilient national cyber ecosystem through knowledge sharing, preparedness, and institutional awareness.
