National Cyber Emergency Response Team successfully conducted a specialized cybersecurity capacity building training focused on “SOC Establishment for National Level Cyber Threat Monitoring” at its headquarters in Islamabad for officials representing Sectoral and Provincial CERTs across Pakistan. The training initiative was organized to strengthen national cybersecurity preparedness and improve the country’s ability to establish effective mechanisms for cyber threat monitoring, detection, analysis, and coordinated incident response. Designed in accordance with National CERT’s Cybersecurity Training Guidelines, the session aimed to enhance institutional readiness by enabling participating organizations to build functional Security Operations Centers (SOCs) capable of supporting real time cyber defense efforts in both public and critical sectors.
The training session was delivered by Adli Wahid, Senior Internet Security Specialist at APNIC, Australia, who shared international experience and practical expertise related to modern SOC frameworks and operational models. According to details shared by National CERT, the program covered a broad range of technical and strategic topics aimed at helping participants better understand the requirements for establishing and managing national level cybersecurity operations. Areas discussed during the training included SOC planning and strategy, technical architecture and infrastructure design, operational workflows, collaboration frameworks, and integration mechanisms needed for coordinated cyber defense. Participants also took part in practical hands on exercises intended to strengthen their understanding of real world cybersecurity monitoring and incident response environments.
Officials and cybersecurity professionals attending the program included representatives from Sectoral CERTs, Provincial CERT information technology and security teams, along with stakeholders connected to organizations operating within critical infrastructure environments. The participation of multiple institutions highlighted the growing focus on improving cybersecurity coordination and preparedness across sectors where cyber risks continue to increase in complexity. Security Operations Centers are increasingly being recognized as essential components of cybersecurity ecosystems because they support continuous monitoring, threat detection, security event analysis, and rapid response to incidents affecting organizational networks and digital assets. As cyber threats continue evolving, national and provincial institutions are placing greater emphasis on establishing coordinated defense capabilities supported by structured monitoring frameworks and trained personnel.
National CERT stated that the training also reflected its broader objective of strengthening institutional cybersecurity capacity and encouraging inter organizational collaboration among public sector entities responsible for digital security and infrastructure resilience. Interactive discussions during the session reportedly received active participation from attendees, reflecting increasing interest in improving national cyber resilience and collaborative preparedness mechanisms across Pakistan. Through specialized programs focused on technical knowledge sharing, operational readiness, and cybersecurity governance, National CERT continues efforts to support a stronger national cybersecurity ecosystem aimed at protecting Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, critical systems, and broader technology environment.
