The Sindh government temporarily suspended its online motorcycle fuel subsidy portal after detecting repeated hacking attempts targeting the system. The platform, introduced to provide a monthly subsidy of Rs 2,000 to registered motorcycle owners, faced an unexpected security threat that raised concerns about the safety of user data. Authorities responded promptly by taking the portal offline as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential breach and to maintain the integrity of the system.
Sindh Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla confirmed that the shutdown was carried out to safeguard sensitive information submitted by applicants, including personal and banking details. Officials stated that the move was necessary to thoroughly investigate the nature of the attempted intrusions and to ensure that no unauthorized access had compromised the system. The government emphasized its commitment to protecting citizens’ data and maintaining trust in digital public services, especially for initiatives involving financial assistance.
The disruption affected users across the province, with many motorcyclists reporting difficulties in accessing the portal to complete registrations or submit their bank account information. Despite the temporary inconvenience, authorities reassured applicants that the subsidy program itself had not been halted. Before the system went offline, approximately 15,000 motorcyclists had successfully registered for the initiative, while nearly 3,000 had submitted complete applications. Out of these, around 1,500 beneficiaries had already received the Rs 2,000 subsidy through Sindh Bank accounts, indicating that the disbursement process had already begun and was functioning prior to the security issue.
Following a detailed review, the portal has now been restored with strengthened security measures designed to prevent future unauthorized access. Officials reported that additional safeguards and monitoring mechanisms have been implemented to detect and respond to suspicious activity more effectively. Users have been encouraged to continue using the official Excise Department platform for registration and application tracking. At the same time, authorities have advised the public to avoid third party applications or unofficial websites that may pose risks to their personal information. The government maintains that the upgraded system is secure and that the subsidy program will proceed without further disruption.
