FIA Introduces AI-Powered System To Track Most Wanted Criminals In Real Time

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has unveiled a new artificial intelligence system aimed at tracking most wanted criminals by visualising their current appearance in real time. FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar confirmed that the agency’s updated red book, which contains records of the country’s most wanted individuals, now incorporates AI-based tools to generate updated visuals of suspects even if they have altered their appearance, such as growing a beard or losing hair. According to Dr Anwar, the system makes it nearly impossible for criminals to evade identification through physical changes.

The modernised red book will be accessible online to all relevant FIA officers and the general public, containing detailed profiles of criminals, including CNIC and passport numbers, mobile numbers, known associates, family members, distinguishing marks, bank account details, and information on first information reports (FIRs) and court cases. Additionally, the red book will provide information on the modus operandi and operational areas of human traffickers, including the routes used and last known locations. Currently, 143 human traffickers wanted under FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking circles are listed in the system.

Dr Anwar highlighted that the AI-powered update forms part of FIA’s broader digital transformation and modernisation agenda. The move replaces manual and fragmented processes with integrated digital systems, improving record integrity, enabling real-time oversight, and strengthening inter-agency connectivity. By digitising investigations, inspections, accountability, and human resource management, the FIA is institutionalising e-governance and modern law enforcement practices, ensuring a more transparent and efficient system of crime prevention. Internal accountability mechanisms, including digitised fact-finding inquiries and departmental proceedings, are already in place and will be enhanced further to reinforce operational integrity.

The FIA chief also addressed concerns related to capsizing incidents of migrant boats, emphasizing that the agency continues to take strict measures to prevent such tragedies. He noted that the legal framework against human smuggling has been strengthened and that a crackdown on traffickers remains active. FIA officials found negligent in these matters are reprimanded to uphold operational standards. Dr Anwar also urged young people seeking employment to pursue legal avenues and avoid risking their lives by falling prey to illegal human trafficking operations. With the integration of AI and digital tools, FIA aims to improve crime suppression, enhance transparency, and support data-driven decision-making in law enforcement across Pakistan.
