Higher Education Commission (HEC) recently convened the Meeting of the National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC) on Cyber Security, bringing together leading academics and subject experts from universities across Pakistan to update and enhance the national cyber security curriculum. This initiative aims to strengthen cyber security education at the national level, ensuring that students pursuing Associate Degree, BS, and MS programs are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to address contemporary security challenges. By aligning academic programs with emerging global trends, industry standards, and evolving cyber threats, the updated curriculum seeks to prepare graduates to contribute effectively to Pakistan’s growing digital ecosystem.
The review process focused on evaluating existing course structures, introducing modern teaching methodologies, and incorporating practical knowledge to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world cyber security requirements. Experts highlighted the importance of integrating emerging topics such as threat intelligence, cloud security, network defense, and incident response into degree programs to ensure graduates are proficient in handling current and future cyber challenges. Through collaborative discussions, the committee emphasized equipping students with not only technical expertise but also critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for national capacity building in cyber security.
Convenor Dr. Zunera Jalil played a pivotal role in guiding the deliberations of the committee, ensuring that the review process remained focused on developing an academically rigorous and industry-relevant curriculum. HEC’s Director of Academics Division, Mr. Hakim Ali Talpur, along with his team, provided dedicated coordination and facilitation throughout the initiative, enabling a seamless and productive review process. Participants expressed that such national-level collaborations are essential for fostering a consistent standard of cyber security education across higher education institutions and for creating a unified approach toward preparing future professionals.
The updated curriculum reflects a forward-looking approach to cyber security education in Pakistan, aiming to cultivate graduates capable of addressing challenges in areas ranging from network security and digital forensics to risk management and cyber policy. By modernizing course content and adopting innovative teaching strategies, the NCRC seeks to strengthen the foundation of national cyber resilience. Stakeholders acknowledged that sustained academic collaboration, combined with ongoing curriculum updates, is key to building a workforce capable of supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation and safeguarding its critical infrastructure against emerging cyber threats.
