National CERT Conducts Incident Response Training To Strengthen Cybersecurity Readiness

Islamabad, Pakistan. National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan, National CERT, conducted a cybersecurity capacity building training session focused on the fundamentals of incident response for its officials at its headquarters. The initiative aimed to strengthen operational preparedness and improve the overall understanding of cybersecurity incident management across different departments within the organization. The training was organized under a Whole of Organization approach, allowing personnel working in multiple technical and operational domains to build foundational knowledge related to identifying, responding to, and managing cybersecurity incidents effectively.

The session brought together National CERT officials representing several directorates and technical units within the organization. Participants included professionals working in information technology, data center operations, and other cybersecurity related domains. By involving staff from diverse operational areas, National CERT sought to encourage cross functional collaboration and strengthen awareness of cybersecurity incident management practices throughout the organization. The initiative reflects the organization’s ongoing efforts to ensure that personnel across departments understand the importance of coordinated response mechanisms and unified action when handling cybersecurity events. Strengthening institutional awareness and preparedness is considered a critical step in improving response capabilities during incidents that may affect digital infrastructure or sensitive information systems.

The training session was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Yousaf, Director CERT, who shared detailed insights into the core principles and operational structures that guide incident response activities. During the session, participants were introduced to the incident response lifecycle, including the stages of preparation, detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery. Dr. Yousaf also discussed globally recognized frameworks and standards used by cybersecurity organizations to structure their response procedures. These frameworks provide structured methodologies that help organizations respond efficiently to security incidents while minimizing disruption and potential damage to digital systems and services. The session also highlighted how National CERT applies these frameworks within Pakistan’s national cybersecurity ecosystem, emphasizing coordination mechanisms used to manage incidents that affect government networks, digital services, and critical information infrastructure.

In addition to theoretical concepts, the training included discussions about operational practices adopted by National CERT in handling cybersecurity incidents at the national level. Dr. Yousaf shared practical insights into the mechanisms and infrastructure used for incident response coordination across the country. Participants were also briefed on how National CERT collaborates with various public and private sector entities to identify, monitor, and mitigate cybersecurity threats. The session emphasized the importance of preparedness, timely communication, and effective coordination when responding to security incidents that may impact national cyberspace. Through such training initiatives, National CERT continues to strengthen the cybersecurity capacity of its workforce while promoting knowledge sharing and professional development among its officials. These efforts support the organization’s broader mission of protecting Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and ensuring that personnel remain prepared to address evolving cybersecurity challenges through structured incident response practices and collaborative institutional awareness.
