Cyber Security Awareness Session Organized To Promote Preventive Digital Practices

A cyber security awareness session is set to take place as part of efforts to promote responsible and ethical use of technology, aligning with the birth anniversary of Imam Ali A.S., a day traditionally associated with knowledge, justice, and moral responsibility. The online session aims to raise awareness about practical preventive measures that can help individuals and organizations reduce cybersecurity risks in an increasingly connected digital environment. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for structured awareness programs, especially for students and early career professionals navigating complex cyber threats.

The session will focus on understanding preventive security controls and everyday practices that reduce exposure to cyber risks. Topics will revolve around identifying common threat vectors, strengthening basic cyber hygiene, and adopting proactive security behaviors across personal and professional digital environments. The discussion is designed to be accessible while remaining relevant to real world challenges faced by IT users, students, and professionals. Emphasis will be placed on responsibility in handling digital assets, ethical conduct in cyberspace, and informed decision making when interacting with online systems, aligning closely with the core values being commemorated through the occasion.

Asad Abbas Dhanji will lead the session as the featured speaker. He brings more than 15 years of experience in IT and information security, currently serving as a Senior Systems Security Engineer and Project Lead Implementor. His professional background includes hands on involvement in designing, implementing, and managing security controls across diverse infrastructures. During the session, he is expected to share insights drawn from industry experience, highlighting preventive approaches that help minimize risks before incidents occur. His perspective aims to bridge theoretical understanding with operational realities, offering participants clarity on how security frameworks and best practices translate into daily operational decisions.

The session will be hosted by Syed Muhammad Abbas Zaidi, a Dawood University student actively engaged in the cyber security domain. With experience spanning SOC operations, GRC, ISMS, Active Directory, AWS, Splunk, and Wazuh, the host represents the growing involvement of students in practical security roles. His participation underscores the importance of student led initiatives in fostering cyber awareness and encouraging peer learning. The event is scheduled for January 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and will be conducted online via Google Meet, ensuring accessibility for participants from different locations. The session is open to IT and Computer Science students, cybersecurity beginners, and professionals interested in understanding risk reduction and preventive security controls. Interested participants can join through the shared meeting link or become part of the dedicated WhatsApp group created to facilitate coordination and communication around the event.
