UAE Cyber Security Council Issues Alert for Google Chrome Users: Update Now

The UAE Cyber Security Council has issued a high-risk alert concerning the desktop version of Google Chrome, the world’s most widely used browser. In a recent advisory on February 22, the Council urged users to update to the latest version of Chrome to mitigate potential breaches, data leaks, or other malicious activities.

According to the cybersecurity agency, multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in the Chrome browser that could enable attackers to execute arbitrary code remotely on affected systems, compromise sensitive data, or bypass security restrictions. These vulnerabilities impact Google Chrome versions v122.0.6261.57 or earlier on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

Google has responded by releasing the latest Chrome version, which includes fixes for 12 security issues. Among these, two were classified as high-severity flaws, five as medium-severity vulnerabilities, and one as low severity.

Updating to the latest version of Chrome is crucial to safeguarding against potential security risks. While updates typically occur automatically in the background, users who have not closed their browser recently may find a pending update. To manually update Google Chrome, users can follow these steps:

1. Open Chrome on your computer.

2. Click on the three-dot menu icon at the top right corner.

3. Select “Help” and then click on “About Google Chrome.”

4. Click on “Update Google Chrome.”

5. Once the update is complete, click “Relaunch” to restart the browser.

It’s important to note that if the “Update Google Chrome” option is not visible, users are already on the latest version. Upon relaunching the browser, any open tabs and windows will be saved and reopened automatically, except for Incognito windows. Users can also choose to postpone the update by clicking “Not now,” with the update being applied the next time the browser is restarted.
