Sindh Govt Refutes Fake Karachi Security Alert Circulating On WhatsApp

Sindh government has issued an official statement dismissing a false security alert that was circulating on WhatsApp, claiming a high-level security alert had been imposed in Karachi from November 12 to November 30. The alert specified multiple public places including Dolmen Mall, Empress Market, Jinnah International Airport, and educational institutions as high-risk locations. It also suggested security measures such as walkthrough gates, metal detector checks, and reporting of suspicious vehicles, warning of legal action under the Sindh Security of Vulnerable Establishments Act 2024 and the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

The fake alert appeared shortly after a tragic incident in Islamabad, where 12 people were killed and 36 injured in a suicide blast outside the district and sessions court in G-11. Security had been tightened in Islamabad and other major cities, including Lahore, which may have contributed to the circulation of the misinformation. However, Sindh Home Department clarified that no such advisory had been issued under reference number HD/Sec/Clarification-11/2025 or any other official correspondence.

The home department emphasized that all genuine security notifications are communicated exclusively through official channels or authorized law enforcement agencies. The press release urged the public and media to avoid sharing or relying on unverified messages on social media and to confirm any security alerts through government sources. This clarification aims to prevent panic and misinformation while ensuring public trust in authentic advisories.

Additionally, the notification comes in the context of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code being in effect across Sindh. Section 144 empowers district administrations to prohibit assemblies of four or more people to maintain public order. The imposition, originally enforced on October 12 for one month, was extended for another month effective November 12 to ensure continued law and order. The home department reaffirmed that the extended Section 144 aims to protect public safety and maintain peace in the province while discouraging gatherings that could disrupt security. The department continues to monitor compliance and urges citizens to follow official instructions for verified information.
