Saudi Arabia announced that three soldiers were killed after border guards successfully thwarted an attempted infiltration by Houthi fighters along the southern border with Yemen. The incident occurred in the Al Harth sector of the Jazan region on Sunday evening, according to an official statement released by the security spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior.
The spokesperson confirmed that border guard units stationed in Al Harth detected and responded to an attempt by hostile elements to cross into Saudi territory. The infiltrators reportedly used machine guns and military-grade projectiles to target border surveillance posts affiliated with the Saudi Border Guard. Security personnel immediately engaged the group, resulting in an exchange of fire along the frontier. Saudi forces were able to repel the attackers and force them to retreat back across the border from where they had advanced.
According to the official statement, the coordinated response by border guard units prevented the infiltrators from breaching the Kingdom’s defenses. The exchange of gunfire, however, resulted in casualties among Saudi personnel. Three soldiers were killed during the confrontation. The fallen servicemen were identified as Marai Assous Ibrahim Daraj, Mohsen Mohammed Ahmed Maridi, and Osama Mohammed Ali Al Ameri. Authorities extended their condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security along the border.
The Jazan region has witnessed periodic cross border incidents amid ongoing tensions linked to the conflict in neighboring Yemen. Saudi Arabia has maintained heightened security measures across its southern frontier to counter infiltration attempts and cross border fire. Officials emphasized that border guard units remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any threat targeting the Kingdom’s territorial integrity. The Ministry of Interior reiterated that security forces will continue to carry out their duties to protect the nation’s borders and ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
