PTA Shares Cybersecurity Initiatives at Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy Session

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently participated as a guest speaker at the Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy session held at UET Lahore, presenting on national efforts to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity posture. The session provided an opportunity to engage with young leaders and aspiring experts in Pakistan’s technology and governance landscape. This session followed a similar discussion held at the PKSIG forum in Sukkur on October 21–22. The event was supported by ICANN and featured participation from key figures including Dr. Sarmad and Mr. Fahad, who were actively involved in discussions about Internet governance in the region. The session was organized by Sadeem Hannan and his team, highlighting a well-coordinated platform for knowledge exchange and professional engagement.

During the session, PTA emphasized its commitment to aligning and synergizing cybersecurity and Internet governance efforts across Pakistan. Various active forums, including PKSIG, PKIGF, PKNOG, and ISOG, have been contributing to the development of Pakistan’s Internet governance framework. PTA is now looking to harmonize these efforts to generate a stronger national-level impact while also increasing the global contribution of the country’s Internet governance community. By inviting prominent contributors and stakeholders to collaborate, PTA aims to create a unified approach that enhances policy, awareness, and operational capabilities in cybersecurity.

The session also highlighted PTA’s strategy to promote a more pronounced engagement of Pakistani experts in international Internet governance initiatives. Discussions focused on how local expertise can be leveraged to contribute to global digital policy-making, ensuring that Pakistan’s cybersecurity strategies are aligned with international standards and best practices. PTA’s efforts include fostering communication among local forums, sharing knowledge, and building cohesive strategies that support both national security and technological innovation.

In addition to policy discussions, the session served as a platform for mentorship and capacity building, allowing students and emerging professionals to gain insights into practical cybersecurity challenges and strategies. By connecting the academic, regulatory, and operational aspects of Internet governance, PTA aims to strengthen the overall ecosystem and enhance Pakistan’s presence in the global digital community. The initiative represents a step toward consolidating efforts from various stakeholders to improve cybersecurity resilience and facilitate a collaborative environment for the country’s Internet governance development.
