Doha, Qatar – Dr. Haider Abbas, TI, Director General of Pakistan’s National CERT, participated as a distinguished panelist at the launch event of Qatar’s National Cyber Incident Framework. Hosted by the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCSA) of Qatar, the event brought together leading cybersecurity experts from across the region to discuss strategies for strengthening national cyber resilience.
The high-level panel discussion, titled “The Significance of CSERT/CERT in Collaborative National Cybersecurity Incident Management,” featured cybersecurity leaders from Oman, Pakistan, NCSA, the Qatar Central Bank (QCB), and the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST). Dr. Abbas’s participation underscored Pakistan’s growing role in the global cybersecurity landscape and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing emerging cyber threats.
During the discussion, Dr. Abbas emphasized the evolving role of sectoral CERTs and corporate CSIRTs (Computer Security Incident Response Teams) in bolstering national cybersecurity. He outlined how real-time threat intelligence sharing and coordinated incident response are essential for mitigating cyber risks in an increasingly interconnected digital world. He also stressed the necessity of strengthening the coordination between national and sectoral CERTs to ensure a swift and effective defense against sophisticated cyberattacks.
Speaking on Pakistan’s commitment to global cybersecurity collaboration, Dr. Abbas highlighted the country’s structured engagement with international cybersecurity frameworks, industry stakeholders, and national incident response teams. He shared insights into Pakistan’s cybersecurity policies and best practices, reinforcing the importance of fostering global partnerships to enhance cyber resilience.
The launch of Qatar’s National Cyber Incident Framework marks a significant milestone in the country’s cybersecurity strategy, providing a structured approach to managing cyber incidents at a national level. The event served as a platform for cybersecurity leaders to exchange knowledge, discuss best practices, and explore innovative strategies for incident response. The discussions focused on the need for public-private partnerships, cross-border cooperation, and the adoption of advanced cybersecurity technologies to safeguard critical digital infrastructure.
Dr. Abbas’s participation in the event reaffirmed the National CERT’s dedication to strengthening international collaboration in cybersecurity. By engaging with global cybersecurity leaders, Pakistan is actively contributing to the development of resilient cyber defenses and ensuring a proactive approach to mitigating threats.
As cyber threats continue to evolve, the importance of structured national cybersecurity frameworks, like the one introduced by Qatar, cannot be overstated. Pakistan’s involvement in such global discussions reflects its growing influence in the cybersecurity domain and its commitment to enhancing cyber resilience at both national and international levels.
The event not only reinforced the critical role of national CERTs in cyber incident management but also set the stage for further cooperation between Pakistan and other global cybersecurity organizations. Through continued engagement in international cybersecurity initiatives, Pakistan aims to strengthen its digital defenses, contribute to global cybersecurity standards, and enhance its ability to respond to emerging threats in an increasingly complex digital environment.
