National CERT – Pakistan has launched the Cyber Champs: Cyber Security Internship Program for Kids, marking a significant step toward building a cyber-resilient generation. This six-week initiative is designed to empower young learners with critical skills for safe and responsible online engagement. The first cohort of children was welcomed with enthusiasm as they embarked on a hands-on journey into the world of digital security.
The program began with an introduction from Ms. Zaheema Iqbal, Assistant Director Advisories and Communication at National CERT. She welcomed the children and emphasized the importance of early cyber education. Mr. Khurram Javed, Director Capacity Building, followed with a formal address outlining the key pillars of the program. His session introduced the participants to fundamental concepts such as cybersecurity hygiene, password protection, digital threats, and the best practices for maintaining safety in online environments.
Designed to be interactive and age-appropriate, the Cyber Champs program combines formal learning with engaging discussions, real-world scenarios, and guided digital exploration. Young participants actively contributed to the sessions, showing interest in the themes of data protection, misinformation identification, and ethical behavior online. The sessions aim not only to inform but also to inspire critical thinking and build creative problem-solving abilities among children.
Cybersecurity has become an essential area of knowledge in today’s digital-first world, particularly as children encounter increasing risks such as online scams, inappropriate content, and misinformation. This initiative by National CERT reflects its commitment to developing cybersecurity capacity from the ground up by starting with the country’s youngest digital users. Through expert-led sessions and hands-on learning, the internship prepares children to navigate the internet with caution, confidence, and purpose.
The content also includes training on identifying fake news, maintaining digital boundaries, managing screen time responsibly, and understanding the broader impact of one’s digital footprint. These lessons are tailored to help children build resilience in the digital age and grow into informed and cautious digital citizens.
Parents, educators, and guardians are encouraged to support this mission by fostering healthy digital habits at home and school. National CERT sees this initiative as part of a broader national strategy to build awareness and create a future-ready, cyber-aware population. The Cyber Champs program encourages dialogue between adults and children about the benefits and risks of technology.
Participants will receive Certificates of Completion at the end of the internship, marking a foundational milestone in their early cybersecurity education. With this effort, National CERT hopes to equip Pakistan’s youth with the skills and awareness required to safely thrive in an increasingly digital society.
