Karachi Police have sacked a man accused of hacking the mobile data and social media accounts of more than one hundred women by using malicious links to gain full access to their devices. The suspect, identified as Sameer, admitted during questioning that he had purchased the tools required for the activity for only five thousand rupees from a seller based in Lahore. Police shared that he used these tools to target women through WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, secretly breaking into their Google accounts and downloading extensive phone data including personal videos and photos. Sameer told investigators that he learned these digital intrusion techniques through an online group and used them repeatedly to exploit victims. His final attempt, which involved a young woman from Ranchore Lines, resulted in his capture after she informed her family and cooperated with police to set up a meeting that led to his detention.
Investigators stated that the sacked man confessed to manipulating victims by pretending to help them with online earning opportunities, gaining their trust and then sending links that allowed him into their devices. Once inside, he downloaded their data and used it to pressure them into continued contact. Police noted that Sameer’s education record appears inconsistent, as he repeatedly changed his statements about his schooling during interrogation. He is currently unemployed and resides in Rabia City, Gulistan e Jauhar, with his mother and sister, both of whom were reportedly aware of his activities. DIG South Asad Raza confirmed that a dedicated inquiry team will now review the seized laptop and mobile phones with assistance from federal agencies and the Counter Terrorism Department to determine the full scope of the case.
Eidgah SHO Hafeez Awan revealed that investigators recovered more than four hundred fifty obscene videos from Sameer’s devices and initial findings suggest that he may have victimized more than one hundred women. Police stated that many of the affected women came from middle income households and were approached by the suspect under the pretext of offering guidance on online income. Once he convinced them to trust him, he sent harmful links that allowed him to secretly breach their accounts and extract sensitive data. Authorities said this pattern repeated across numerous victims, indicating premeditated behavior and sustained exploitation. The young woman who ultimately helped with his capture played a critical part by providing timely information that enabled law enforcement to intercept the suspect and seize incriminating material.
Law enforcement officials have now contacted FIA Cyber Crime Wing to expand the investigation and assess whether the stolen data was being circulated or sold on the dark web. Authorities also aim to identify other potential victims and determine whether additional individuals were involved in supplying the hacking tools or assisting the suspect. Police stated that this case reflects an increasing need for awareness around digital security and caution when receiving unfamiliar links, particularly for social media platforms that hold sensitive user information. Investigators emphasized that they will continue to examine the recovered devices to trace the movement of the stolen data and ensure that those affected receive the necessary support while the inquiry proceeds.
