Pakistan’s cybersecurity ecosystem continues to evolve as experienced professionals take on roles that connect policy direction with operational expertise. Among them, Jawad Khalid Mirza stands out as a figure who has combined industry leadership with national level engagement. With more than two decades of hands on experience across financial institutions, telecommunications, and public sector organizations in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Mirza has contributed to building cyber resilient environments through practical implementation rather than theoretical frameworks. His work reflects a consistent focus on strengthening organizational defenses and improving response capabilities in complex digital environments.
In a recent development that highlights increasing coordination between government and industry, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has nominated Mirza as a member of the newly forming National CERT Council. Currently serving as Chief Information Security Officer at Askari Bank, he joins the council as an industry representative, bringing insights from real world cybersecurity operations into national level discussions. The council forms a key component of National Cyber Security Policy 2021, which outlines the establishment of a national Computer Emergency Response Team supported by sector specific CERTs. Within this framework, Mirza’s role involves contributing to consultative and advisory processes that will shape how Pakistan prepares for and responds to cyber threats at scale.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Mirza has played a visible role in developing Pakistan’s cybersecurity ecosystem through multiple platforms and initiatives. His involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Cyber Security Forum at Pakistan Banks Association, participating as a member of the FinCERT Committee at State Bank of Pakistan, and co founding CISO Forum Pakistan. He is also associated with National Center for Cyber Security through its Research Fund Evaluation board and contributes internationally as a board member of Africa Cyber Defense Forum. In addition, he leads the Islamabad chapter of OWASP, supporting knowledge sharing and skill development among cybersecurity professionals. These roles collectively represent a sustained effort to build collaboration, encourage information exchange, and strengthen professional standards across the sector.
Mirza’s contributions have also received recognition beyond national boundaries, reflecting the increasing presence of Pakistani cybersecurity professionals on the global stage. In 2023, he was named CISO of the Year, an acknowledgment of both his leadership and the impact of his work across industries. His continued involvement in national initiatives such as the National CERT Council highlights a broader trend where experienced practitioners are being integrated into policy frameworks to ensure that strategic decisions are informed by operational realities. Through this alignment of expertise and governance, Pakistan’s cybersecurity landscape continues to develop with a stronger foundation in both practice and collaboration.
