Anthropic has introduced Claude Code Security, a new capability integrated into Claude Code on the web, designed to help organizations detect and remediate software vulnerabilities with greater depth and accuracy. Announced on 20 February 2026, the feature is available in a limited research preview for Enterprise and Team customers, with expedited access offered to maintainers of open source repositories. The initiative aims to strengthen defensive cybersecurity practices by equipping security teams with advanced AI tools that can identify complex and previously overlooked weaknesses in codebases while ensuring human oversight remains central to the remediation process.
Security teams often struggle with an expanding backlog of vulnerabilities and limited personnel to investigate and resolve them. Traditional static analysis tools, widely used across the industry, rely primarily on rule based detection to match code against known vulnerability signatures. While effective at uncovering common issues such as exposed credentials or outdated encryption methods, these systems frequently miss nuanced flaws involving business logic errors or broken access controls. Claude Code Security addresses these limitations by reasoning through code in a manner similar to a human security researcher. Instead of simply scanning for established patterns, the system analyzes how application components interact, traces data flows, and evaluates contextual relationships to surface subtle, high severity weaknesses that conventional tools may not detect.
To reduce false positives and increase reliability, each finding generated by Claude Code Security passes through a structured multi stage verification process. The model re examines its own conclusions, attempting to validate or disprove initial assessments before presenting them to analysts. Identified vulnerabilities are assigned severity ratings, enabling teams to prioritize remediation efforts based on risk exposure. Findings are displayed in a dedicated dashboard where developers can inspect the issue, review suggested software patches, and evaluate the provided confidence rating. Importantly, no changes are implemented automatically. Human review and approval remain mandatory, reinforcing the principle that AI serves as an assistant rather than an autonomous decision maker in security critical workflows.
Claude Code Security builds upon more than a year of research into the cybersecurity capabilities of Claude models. Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team has evaluated these capabilities through participation in competitive Capture the Flag events and collaborations with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory focused on defending critical infrastructure. Using Claude Opus 4.6, released earlier this month, researchers identified more than 500 vulnerabilities in production open source codebases, including defects that had remained undetected for decades despite expert examination. The organization is currently engaged in triage and responsible disclosure processes with maintainers and plans to broaden collaboration with the open source community. Anthropic also applies Claude internally to review and secure its own systems, reporting strong results in strengthening its code security posture. By embedding these capabilities into Claude Code, the company seeks to make advanced AI driven vulnerability detection accessible within existing developer workflows, at a time when both defenders and adversaries are increasingly leveraging AI to analyze and exploit software weaknesses.
