Alina Amir Urges Action Against Deepfake Video Circulating On Social Media

TikTok content creator Alina Amir has publicly called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene in a case involving a deepfake video falsely attributed to her and widely circulated on social media platforms. Amir raised the issue through a video message shared on her Instagram account on Sunday, drawing attention to what she described as a deliberate attempt to defame her through the misuse of artificial intelligence generated content.

In her message, Amir explained that she initially chose to remain silent for about a week after the video began circulating, hoping the situation would resolve on its own. However, she said her decision changed after seeing multiple posts falsely claiming that an explicit video of her had been leaked. She expressed concern over how quickly such misinformation spreads online and how damaging it can be for individuals whose identities are misused. Amir criticised those involved in creating and sharing such content, saying that attempts to malign people through fabricated videos reflected a serious moral and legal issue. She urged social media users to verify the authenticity of videos and images before sharing them further, warning that careless sharing contributes directly to harassment and reputational harm.

Addressing the authorities directly, Amir made a public appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, requesting strict action against those responsible for producing and distributing deepfake videos of women. She said such acts were designed to ruin lives and should be treated as serious offenses. Amir specifically praised the efforts of Punjab Cyber Crime Department, acknowledging its role in addressing online abuse, and urged officials to handle her case with urgency. She stressed that the creation of AI generated fake videos constituted harassment and should result in strict punishment to deter similar actions in the future. According to her, stronger enforcement was necessary to protect women from emerging forms of digital exploitation.

Amir also highlighted that the problem extends far beyond public figures and social media influencers. She said individuals behind such content are increasingly targeting ordinary women, sending manipulated videos to their families and social circles in an effort to intimidate, shame, and destroy personal relationships. She described these actions as emotionally devastating and warned that unchecked misuse of AI tools could normalize digital abuse. By sharing her experience, Amir said she hoped to draw attention to the broader impact of deepfake technology when used irresponsibly, particularly in societies where reputational harm can have long lasting consequences.

In addition to seeking official action, Amir announced a cash reward for anyone who could provide credible information leading to the identification of the person responsible for creating the fake video. She said this step was meant to encourage accountability and send a message that victims would no longer remain silent. Amir also urged women facing similar situations to speak up and raise their voices instead of enduring abuse quietly. She emphasized that collective awareness and support were essential in countering online harassment and ensuring that those misusing digital tools to harm others are held responsible under the law.
