National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has announced plans to use artificial intelligence technologies to strengthen investigations into online crimes involving children. The agency has signed agreements with international artificial intelligence organizations as part of efforts to improve its ability to identify, analyze, and investigate cases involving harmful online activities. NCCIA Lahore Additional Director Atif Ameer said AI assisted analysis has already supported investigations and helped identify a suspect in Gujranwala. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the agency’s capabilities in handling complex digital investigations, particularly cases involving online abuse, distribution of harmful content, and other forms of cybercrime targeting vulnerable individuals.
According to NCCIA officials, artificial intelligence tools can help investigators analyze large volumes of digital information more efficiently and identify patterns linked to online criminal activity. Atif Ameer said cooperation with international AI organizations would support more effective detection and investigation of cases involving child related online offenses. He also stated that NCCIA had taken action against several individuals in recent cases involving child sexual abuse material. The individuals identified in these investigations include Hassan Akram, who was accused of sharing inappropriate content involving children, Faizan Ahmad, who was accused of uploading such material, and Ammar, who was accused of distributing the content through online groups. The agency’s efforts are focused on identifying individuals involved in such activities and strengthening mechanisms to respond to online threats affecting children.
NCCIA has also continued investigations into broader cybercrime activities, including online harassment, blackmail, and the circulation of private photographs and videos through digital platforms. Officials said the agency is pursuing cases involving misuse of online services and is working to improve its response capabilities through technology adoption and investigative cooperation. In addition to child protection related cases, NCCIA Lahore has intensified action against illegal call centers operating in the city. According to Atif Ameer, 281 suspects, including 21 foreign nationals, were taken into custody during recent operations targeting illegal call center activities. He said such operations would continue as part of efforts to address cybercrime networks and activities that misuse digital communication channels.
The adoption of artificial intelligence for cyber investigations reflects a wider trend among law enforcement and cybersecurity organizations seeking advanced technologies to improve digital threat detection. AI based analysis can assist investigators by identifying connections between online activities, reviewing digital evidence, and supporting faster response to emerging threats. NCCIA’s collaboration with international AI organizations is expected to contribute to stronger investigative processes while supporting efforts to create a safer online environment. The agency is also continuing investigations into other reported cybercrime cases, including an incident in Farooqabad where another suspect was identified during ongoing inquiries. As online threats continue to evolve, NCCIA’s focus on technology driven investigations highlights the increasing role of artificial intelligence in supporting cybersecurity operations, digital evidence analysis, and protection against misuse of online platforms.
